What you’ll be doing
CIBC Private Wealth and Wood Gundy is focused on providing excellence in relationship-based advice, service and product solutions that meet our clients' needs. We have a comprehensive offer that addresses the full spectrum of wealth building clients - from self-directed investors to high net worth private wealth individuals, to institutional clients.
Reporting to the Director, Fee-Based Integration, Wealth Solutions, the Senior Consultant, Fee-Based Integration helps shape and execute the strategic direction of fee-based solutions for CIBC Private Wealth and Wood Gundy across the Prairies. This is an opportunity to influence how Wood Gundy advisory practices evolve — through thoughtful partnership, insight, and execution support.
Portfolio management is a foundational pillar of modern advisory practice, and you will serve as a subject matter expert and advocate for disciplined portfolio management across advisory business models (including both discretionary and non-discretionary practices). You’ll help advisors strengthen outcomes through scalable portfolio construction, implementation, and monitoring approaches aligned to client needs and practice goals.
The CIBC Unified Account (UA) platform will become the underlying portfolio management and trading system for Fee-Based Solutions at Wood Gundy. Unified Accounts are the natural evolution of Separately Managed Accounts and Fee-Based Solutions. The CIBC UA platform aims to provide a single account solution that holds multiple investment solutions or “sleeves”, and automates rebalancing and day-to-day cashflow management.
You will translate portfolio management concepts into practical advisor workflows that accelerates adoption of the UA program and fee-based solutions. This includes contributing to the development of tools and programs designed to enhance Advisors’ business practices and increase revenue and market share. This highly visible role blends analytics, consulting, and change leadership, partnering closely with Wood Gundy advisory teams, branch leadership and other Wealth Management partners to accelerate adoption of the UA program and fee-based solutions.
Success in this role is measured by sustained increases in UA and fee-based adoption, stronger head office inter-department collaboration, and actionable field feedback that improves the advisor experience and supports the ongoing evolution of the UA platform.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.
How You’ll Succeed
- Senior Consultant: You will act as a strategic partner to Wood Gundy advisory teams, leading forward-looking conversations focused on portfolio management concepts, practice evolution, and scalability. Develop a strong working knowledge of fee-based products (example of internal products: Investment Consulting Services (ICS), Portfolio Partner (PP)) to form informed perspectives. Act as a key contact and Unified Account (UA) subject matter expert for Investment Advisors, Branch Management and internal Wealth Management partners. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key fee-based Advisor supporters and other investment staff. Stay engaged with advisory teams through implementation of fee-based solutions — supporting advisors in executing their chosen direction and removing barriers to progress. Build deep, trust-based relationships through consistent presence, high-quality service, and follow-through.
- Business Development: You will proactively analyze advisors’ books of business to uncover data-driven opportunities and develop strategic proposals. Prospect advisors in the region to proactively discover their business goals and present your strategic recommendations. Build action plans with Investment Advisors to optimize business practices through increased use of the UA program and fee-based offerings (where applicable). Monitor your region’s fee-based targets with the objective of increasing business revenue, competitiveness, growing market share and reducing operational costs.
- Programs and tool development: You will work in collaboration with the Director, Fee-Based Integration, Wealth Solutions and Wood Gundy branch leadership to develop and implement programs, tools, and best-in-class portfolio management strategies that increase adoption and grow fee-based assets. Work closely with Practice Management, Training & Development, Head Office partners and vendors to develop programs and sessions that assist in the development of portfolio management capabilities of Advisors and their teams. Create and enhance resources, tools, and materials (such as presentation content, Excel tools, and explanatory guides) to support advisory teams and consultants in communicating concepts and driving adoption in the field.
- UA Program Support: You will promote UA best practices, reinforce benefits, and “quarterback” resolution of UA-related challenges by coordinating with Technology/Operations and internal partners. Work with Change Management leads and Fee Based Solutions team to support phased roll-out of the UA program across regions. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the UA platform and the advisor experience by sharing themes, feedback, and improvement opportunities. Identify opportunities for efficiencies in business practices to better optimize resource usage. Assess the operational challenges and client impact related to changes to both the existing fee-based solution offer and Unified Account offering.
Who You Are
- You can demonstrate well-developed knowledge of portfolio management and fee-based solutions at a tactical level as it relates to the retail brokerage business. You also have highly developed knowledge of the wealth management business, with 8 to 10 years of experience in the industry. Additional accreditation (CFP, CIM, CFA) is an asset.
- You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You bring strong analytical, business, and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret data and turn it into actionable recommendations.
- You act like an owner. You thrive when you’re empowered to take initiative, go above and beyond, and deliver results. You have the ability to identify business opportunities and implement successful strategies. You have awareness of business issues, processes, and outcomes as they impact Wood Gundy and our clients. You are highly organized, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines independently.
- You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You connect with others through respect and authenticity. A high degree of travel within the Prairie provinces may be required, providing support to Prairie provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba) coverage for CIBC Wood Gundy branches.
- Strong technical knowledge. You have advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel and other MS Office tools and enjoy analyzing data. Familiarity with CGI Wealth360, SS&C, and Broadridge is an asset.
- Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values – trust, teamwork, and accountability.
