Job Summary:
Altus Group is hiring a Senior Consultant who will be responsible for supporting the Calgary tax team and managing client deliverables. This includes being assigned a project, to a final product being reviewed by senior staff and project management from work assignments to managing deliverables and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Intelligence- Contributes to the local office’s ongoing market data research and industry knowledge, teaches junior staff how and where to collect market research and data, as well as, leads junior staff in the compilation and organization of data for easy access by all office staff
- Collaborates with peers to develop and refine data analytics to identify trends in the market and increase consultant productivity
- Takes information learned from research, clients and market events to identify 5 or more potential opportunities annually to be pursued directly or in collaboration with senior staff, as well as, uses market intelligence to find ways to expand revenues with existing clients
- Participates in industry events in support of business growth and development
- Valuation & Assessment Analysis - Conducts analysis of equity in relation to comparable assessments with consideration to and understanding of governing legislation
- Generates various financial models & analysis using established procedures/templates to be used in valuation process
- Compiles research and analysis to prepare initial arguments/positions for both individual properties and various classes of properties
- independently performs all types of property inspections for the purposes of verifying assessed value and identifying opportunities for assessment adjustments, collecting qualitative information to be used as evidence in hearings and/or client reports, as well as, independently proposes view on the assessment and suggested actions
- Expertise in the assessment of regulated property and related construction cost reporting is an asset for this posting
- Reporting- Review and assist junior team members with preparation of reports and materials, review schedules and related work papers to support the numbers to be submitted to jurisdictions
- Review internal project tracking and client progress reports
- File & Client Management - Manages mid-sized local & regional client, ensures client engagements are fully executed and up to date
- Develops an understanding of clients’ issues and position as it relates to their property and translates these key messages to the internal team. Instills appreciation for client expectations within the team and ensures file work is conducted to meet the client’s goals
- Oversees the Work in Progress (WIP) throughout the project
- Ensure client invoices are accurate (reflects nuances of file specifics), issued on a timely basis and handles any issues clients have with final invoices
- Technical work supervision: Supervises client work prepared by junior staff to ensure client deadlines are met, provide technical work direction & instructions and review reports/contributing work for reports and analysis
Key Qualifications:
- Preference given to candidates with operations knowledge and experience in the energy industry: oil & gas, electric power, mining, other
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Economics, Energy focused schooling is preferred. Industry experience will be considered in place of degree or diploma
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
- Property Tax Sector Knowledge is preferred: understanding of how taxes are determined from the assessments returned, understanding of tax legislation pertaining to tax classifications, exemptions from taxation, and tax phase in tools, as well as, the ability to give clients strategic advice on these issues
- Required System & Software tools knowledge: exceptional quantitative and analytical skills, as well as, advanced skill level in Microsoft Office Suite of products required
- Required Product / Service / Process: Understanding legislated timelines
- Valid driver’s license with a clean drivers' abstract
