Strathcona Resources Ltd. We are actively seeking an experienced Drilling Engineer to join our team in Calgary reporting to the Drilling Superintendent. In this role, you will be involved with planning, design and well delivery across all Strathcona Lloydminster Conventional Business Unit’s (LCBU) assets.  You will work with all LCBU disciplines to ensure that the capital drilling program is delivered safely, on time and budget, and, with high quality results.  You will support drilling operations by assisting the Drilling Superintendent and Capital Manager with daily operations and reporting, vendor performance analysis, KPI monitoring and periodic on call relief. 

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Plan development programs with the asset teams to effectively design and budget projects. 

  • Prepare detailed and accurate drilling programs including: 

    • Area offset reviews and well control procedures,

    • Detailed cost estimates, 

    • Adherence to area Basis of Well Design while assuring regulatory compliance, 

    • Accurate document management (stick diagrams, directional plans, etc.), 

    • Coordination with 3rd party services for directional planning, cementing, mud programs, casing supply, etc.  

  • Assist the Drilling Superintendent with program optimization: 

    • Daily monitoring of drilling performance and rig KPIs, 

    • BHA design and selection,

    • Project reviews and lookbacks, 

    • Cross functional review of well design to ensure full life cycle needs are being met. 

  • Vendor management through: 

    • Monitoring of vendor QA/QC programs, 

    • Investigation of service quality events, 

    • Participating in tool tear downs as required, 

    • Evaluation of new technologies. 

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and APEGA member in good standing, 

  • 5 to 10 years of technical/operational drilling experience,

  • Experience in conventional heavy oil drilling, including mature field drilling and multi-lateral horizontals, is considered an asset, and,  

  • Strong project management skills and thorough understanding of project development and delivery processes.

  • Based at our head office in downtown Calgary.
