Reporting to the Manager, Reliability Requirements & Market Support, we are looking for a Senior Engineer specializing in the generation domain. You will help guide generator related initiatives including impacts to grid reliability and system performance, influence internal and external stakeholders, and evaluate generator capabilities including qualifying resources for ancillary services.
You will apply expertise in power generation and high voltage transmission facilities – especially in generator and facility control systems such as frequency regulation systems and voltage control systems, and testing and validation of generator performance. You have a solid working knowledge of power generation technologies and transmission system performance.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as subject matter expert on technical capabilities of generating units, aggregated facilities, energy storage, and hybrid resources, including:
Contribute to the development and enhancement of AESO technical rules, reliability standards, and related documents.
Support procurement and qualification of technical services and ancillary market resources to ensure grid reliability.
Assess facility performance during system events, investigate threshold triggers, and validate equipment operation.
Advise on integration of power generation technologies and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Respond to information requests, waiver/variance applications, and maintain documentation of methods and practices.
Collaborate with customers to resolve issues, explain methodologies, and evaluate policy changes.
Mentor and train engineers and team members to support quality outcomes and business objectives.
What you’ll bring to us:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
Registered with or eligible to be registered with APEGA.
10+ years’ experience or more in the field of power generation and transmission engineering, operations, and regulatory support.
Ability to understand and interpret generator control systems and its performance, power generation technologies and power plant operation philosophies.
Facility design and/or operational experience, with focus on generators and industrial system designation (ISD) facilities including as they pertain to customer connections.
Ability to understand, interpret, develop or modify ISO technical rules and reliability standards for power generation and transmission facilities.
Extensive skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, drawing logical conclusions and ability to articulate findings and recommendations.
