The Role
We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager with deep roots in frontend engineering to join our engineering leadership team. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you'll own a cross-functional product engineering team, partner closely with Product and Design, and help shape how we build and scale our web platform. This is a high-leverage role at an early-stage company. You'll have real ownership, real impact, and a seat at the table as we continue to scale.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Product and Design to define technical direction, scope projects, and deliver high-quality features on fast-moving roadmap.
- Have the ability to be hands-on; Be able to dive in and write code, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architectural decisions alongside your team.
- Drive engineering excellence and establish best practices in code quality, testing, performance, and accessibility for our web platform.
- Own hiring for your team: identify gaps, engage with strong candidates from your network, and build a world-class engineering culture.
- Communicate clearly with senior leadership on team progress, risks, and opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong foundation in modern frontend development.
- 4+ years in an engineering management or team lead role, with a track record of growing engineers, scaling teams, and delivering results.
- Experience at an early-stage startup. You understand the scrappiness required, the pace expected, and how to build durable systems amid ambiguity.
- Strong technical judgment: you can assess tradeoffs, push back when needed, and make pragmatic decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, allowing you to translate technical complexity for non-engineers and align stakeholders across product, design, and business.
- A genuine bias for action and ownership. You don’t wait for permission, you spot problems and solve them.
- Experience building and shipping production applications with a high bar for performance, reliability, and user experience.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with Vue.js, you’ve shipped production apps with it and have opinions on how to use it well.
- Experience in fintech, proptech, or a regulated/security-conscious industry.
- Familiarity with backend systems (Node.js, APIs, databases), you don’t need to be a backend engineer, but context helps.
- Prior experience scaling an engineering team from 5 to 15 engineers.
- Experience and perspective on how to leverage AI tooling in regulated environments with sensitive data.
- Track record of building design systems, component libraries, or platform-level frontend Infrastructure.
