About CoLab

At CoLab, we want to help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

CoLab is a cloud based platform for engineering design review. We make it easy for subject matter experts (SMEs) across your business to access, evaluate, and comment on 2D drawings and 3D models. Our built-in AI peer checker, AutoReview, scans designs for common errors or non-compliance with your standards and guidelines. AutoReview creates markups and comments on your files, in context – just like a human checker.

With CoLab, human SMEs and AI work together to help you make better decisions and improve designs faster. We automatically capture knowledge from across your global business that would otherwise be buried in emails, spreadsheets, slide decks, and unknown locations in Sharepoint or PLM. Then, we make sure every lesson learned and every design guideline is applied exactly when it matters.

Companies like Johnson Controls, Komatsu, Schaeffler, and Polaris have launched products 40% faster, cut BOM costs by 50%, and reduced quality escapes by 15% in 1 year.

About the Role

This role sits on our Build Eng Reviews team — the group responsible for the structure and organization of CoLab’s core assets.

You’ll work on the foundational framework and layout design of CoLab’s core assets. This includes building our file drive capabilities, managing and displaying complex hierarchical data, like Assembly Structures and BOMs, and exploring new forms of engineering data such as Simulations and ECAD.

This is a front-end heavy full stack role. You’ll spend a lot of your time in the UI layer, building fast, intuitive experiences on top of complex and varied data models. But you won’t be isolated from backend or infrastructure decisions — you’ll contribute across the stack when needed.

The challenge? Visibility and urgency.

Engineers rely on these features daily. Sales relies on them in enterprise deals. Leadership has opinions. Customers have requests. Priorities can shift. You’ll need to build with focus and resilience, even when the spotlight is on.

If you like building technically demanding interfaces where performance, precision, and usability all matter — you’ll thrive here.

Our Ideal Candidate

You enjoy hard technical problems — especially the kind where rendering performance, complex data relationships, and UX intersect.

You can:

  • Build elegant front-end systems on top of complex data
  • Navigate shifting priorities without losing momentum
  • Hold strong opinions loosely and engage in thoughtful technical debate

This team works closely with Product and other engineering teams. You won’t find someone micromanaging you — but you will find high standards and clear expectations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Own front-end architecture and implementation for asset organization and interaction
  • Contribute to technical decisions that shape the future of CoLab’s core asset management
  • Improve performance and reliability of large file rendering workflows
  • Build and iterate on the UX representations of Assembly Structure and BOM data trees
  • Develop new engineering review capabilities within CoLab (e.g., simulations, ECAD)
  • Respond to high-impact feature requests with pragmatic, well-structured solutions
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in full stack development, with strong front-end focus
  • Deep experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React)
  • Strong understanding of rendering performance, state management, and complex UI systems
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining complex relational data models
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional product teams

Bonus:

  • Experience with CAD file formats or engineering software
  • Experience optimizing high-performance browser applications
Extra Details
  • Full-time, permanent position with competitive compensation and stock options
  • Extended health and benefits package including unlimited paid vacation and RRSP matching (Canada)
  • Remote-friendly within Canada, with hybrid options in St. John’s, NL
Equity Note

Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic and apply even if you don’t meet every single qualification—your potential is what matters most to us.
