About this role
This role is for a Senior Full-Stack Developer, front-end leaning, who will report directly to the Technical Director. You'll spend the majority of your time designing and building high-performance, scalable user interfaces, while also owning the API and data layer that powers them — working end-to-end on modern, full-stack applications.
What will this role do?
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of complex applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, along with the Node.js-based APIs and services that support them.
- Design and build RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, including data modeling, authentication, and integration with SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Collaborate closely with clients, product managers, UI/UX designers, and back-end engineers to translate business requirements and design mockups into functional, full-stack solutions.
- Act as a technical expert across the stack, providing guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on both front-end and back-end best practices.
- Drive adoption of modern development techniques, tools, and frameworks — front-end and back-end alike.
- Ensure the performance, scalability, security, and maintainability of applications from the UI down through the API and data layer.
- Leverage Next.js server-side capabilities (SSR, RSC, API routes) to blur the line between front-end and back-end where it improves performance or developer experience.
- Participate in code reviews across the stack, ensuring code quality, consistency, and adherence to established standards.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex issues spanning the client, API, and data layers.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts and project progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging front-end and back-end technologies and trends, evaluating and recommending new approaches where appropriate.
- Contribute to project planning, estimation, and technical documentation across the full stack.
What do you need for this role?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Front-End or Full-Stack Engineer, with a strong focus on React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- 2+ years of hands-on backend experience — building and maintaining APIs with Node.js (e.g., Express, Nest.js), and working with relational or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working within a Digital Agency environment, with direct client interaction and management.
- Proven expertise building responsive, accessible, and performant web applications, backed by well-designed APIs and data models.
- Deep understanding of modern JavaScript, on both the client and server.
- Extensive experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand, Context API).
- Practical experience with SSR, React Server Components (RSC), and static site generation (SSG) as tools for connecting front-end and back-end concerns.
- Strong understanding of front-end build tools and package managers (e.g., Webpack, Vite, npm, Yarn).
- Experience with testing frameworks across the stack (e.g., Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Supertest).
- Familiarity with Git workflows.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information — front-end or back-end — clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating complex, full-stack projects is a significant plus.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with GraphQL API design and schema architecture.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including deploying and managing backend services.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) or serverless deployment patterns.
- Understanding of SEO best practices for front-end development.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
