Senior Game Engineer (Unreal)

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Game Engineer (Unreal) to join our small, passionate team building an upcoming mobile game, backed by Supercell and built in Unreal Engine 5.

This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership. We are looking for deep Unreal experience and the judgement to make architectural decisions that hold up in production. You’ll be building game features that turn design ideas into responsive, polished player experiences, or designing the underlying systems that those features are built on. Where you focus at any given time will depend on what the game needs. These foundations need to scale and evolve as the project grows from pre-production to a mobile live-service experience.

We're open to a range of strengths here. Some candidates may lean more toward feature and gameplay work, others toward systems and architecture. We are happy to shape the role around you and our team members to figure out the best fit!

You’ll also have influence beyond your own implementation. You’ll work closely with the team to help shape technical approaches across the project, and bring enough breadth to understand how different parts of the game fit together.

We’re a small, early-stage team and intend to remain lean. You’ll need to be comfortable working within ambiguity, without layers of process or people around you.

If you enjoy building games hands-on and have experience helping a small team make stronger technical decisions, this is an opportunity to have a significant impact at an early stage.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and own game features in Unreal Engine, from early implementation through iteration and polish.

  • Design and evolve game systems that support areas such as player state, progression, persistence, content and other interconnected game features.

  • Work closely with design to translate game ideas into solutions that feel good for players, are technically sound underneath, and can evolve as we learn what makes the game better.

  • Comfortable moving between feature work and systems work, with the judgment to understand what a problem requires and where the right level of technical investment sits.

  • Make architectural decisions and help shape technical approaches, standards and patterns across the Unreal codebase.

  • Identify technical debt and risk, making pragmatic calls on what should be addressed now versus later.

  • Work closely with other engineers through technical discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.

  • Help the team make effective use of Unreal Engine and its native systems.

  • Evaluate and improve performance, stability and scalability for a mobile target.

  • Collaborate effectively across technical boundaries, including the game client, backend services, gameplay implementation, technical art and external engineering partners.

What We’re Looking For
  • Significant professional game development experience, with deep hands-on expertise in Unreal Engine and C++

  • Experience building and shipping both player-facing features and/or foundational game systems on one or more Unreal game titles.

  • Strong architectural and systems thinking, with a player-first mindset - you know how to build the right technical foundation for the experience without under-engineering what needs to scale or over-engineering what doesn’t.

  • Strong Unreal-specific judgment and a pragmatic approach to technical trade-offs - you know when to work with the engine, when to extend it, when a custom solution is justified, and when “good enough” is the right call.

  • Comfortable thinking across the wider technical picture of a game, even when you are not the person implementing every layer.

  • A confident, collaborative communicator who can explain technical decisions clearly, challenge approaches constructively, and work through disagreement productively.

  • Comfortable taking ownership of loosely defined problems and moving them forward without waiting for perfect specifications or established processes.

  • Comfortable adapting as we iterate on the game, learn from players, and refine what we build.

  • You actively look for ways to use AI-assisted development tools to increase your own velocity and expand what a small team can accomplish. We expect AI to be a core part of how we work, while applying strong engineering judgment to the output.

Nice to Have
  • Experience mentoring, pairing with, or informally guiding other engineers.

  • Experience with procedural or generative content systems in Unreal.

  • Experience shipping or scaling a live-service game.

  • Mobile game development and performance optimization experience, including profiling, memory, rendering and device constraints.

What We Offer
  • Remote-first team setup with flexible hours and async-friendly communication.

  • A Supercell-backed core game development team where your work and technical decisions have a direct impact on the product.

  • Meaningful ownership over interesting technical challenges in a small, high-trust team.

Location

Open to candidates based in Finland, the UK, Canada, and potentially elsewhere in the EU subject to employment arrangements.
