About the Role 


As the Senior Government Affairs Manager, Canada, you will be responsible for leading engagement with government officials, agencies, and other stakeholders in Canada, in support of Instacart’s overall public policy agenda. You will represent Instacart in interactions with governments across Canada, as well as public policy think tanks, trade associations, and other entities. You will have experience in government, politics, and technology policy issues, as well as excellent written communication skills and an ability to grasp and explain complex technical and policy issues.

We build trust with government policymakers, helping them understand our business and its positive impact on their communities. We help to shape complex, cutting-edge public policy debates that will define the future of work and e-commerce. We engage a diverse coalition of stakeholders and communities to build effective advocacy campaigns that advance our public policy goals. We help the company see around corners to anticipate and adjust to rapidly evolving political and regulatory landscapes.

The Senior Government Affairs Manager, Canada will lead Instacart’s Policy & Government Affairs presence throughout Canada and oversee our engagement with all Canadian federal, provincial and municipal government stakeholders. 

About the Job 

  • Build relationships with key policymakers (both elected and non-elected) and other influential federal, provincial and municipal  government- stakeholders and opinion leaders
  • Educate policymakers on the value of Instacart’s business to their constituents and the ecommerce landscape
  • Craft and execute legislative, regulatory and political strategies to achieve Canadian policy goals
  • Prepare for government committee hearings, and other legislative and regulatory proceedings
  • Work within other government structures, departments, ministries, agencies and working groups to advocate on behalf of Instacart policy priorities.
  • Represent Instacart in trade associations and industry coalitions at the federal, provincial and municipal levels
  • Build third party advocacy and industry allies to support strategic policy objectives
  • Collaborate with Policy Research & Development and Public Engagement teams to create policy solutions and build comprehensive advocacy campaigns for key legislative priorities


About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • You have 6+ years of government, policy or corporate government relations experience
  • You have established government relationships and you confidently interact with elected officials and executives alike
  • You have a deep understanding of federal, provincial and municipal lawmaking and regulatory processes
  • You are a strategic thinker with polished oral and written presentation skills
  • You thrive under pressure and can balance long and short-term priorities to deliver results
  • You have an ability to think, plan, and execute with minimal direction and supervision.
  • You are resourceful and entrepreneurial with a bias towards action
  • Eligible to register as a lobbyist under the Lobbying Act of Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in labor/workforce, ecommerce or tech policy preferred

Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here. Currently, we are only hiring in the following provinces: Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.

Offers may vary based on many factors, such as candidate experience and skills required for the role. Additionally, this role is eligible for a new hire equity grant as well as annual refresh grants. Please read more about our benefits offerings here.

For Canadian based candidates, the base pay ranges for a successful candidate are listed below.
