The Opportunity

A Senior Indirect Tax Analyst opportunity is available within the Canadian Tax team, reporting to the Manager of Canadian Indirect Tax. The team is responsible for Indirect Tax compliance for a broad portfolio of Canadian natural gas pipeline, power, energy solutions, and corporate entities.

As part of a collaborative and high-performing group, the Senior Indirect Tax Analyst will support the team’s mandate to ensure compliance with Canadian Indirect Tax legislation. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of Canadian Indirect Tax rules and the ability to analyze high volumes of transactions to determine accurate and compliant tax treatment.

What You’ll Do

  • Preparing Indirect Tax returns for a large number of Canadian entities

  • Interacting with Internal Supply Chain, Accounts Payable, Corporate Accounting, Legal, Treasury and Finance departments to provide Indirect Tax guidance for all of TC Energy’s Canadian business units

  • Researching relevant tax issues

  • Corresponding with Federal and Provincial tax authorities

  • Providing support for external and internal audits

  • Participating in developing best practices in compliance with Indirect Tax processes as they relate to TC Energy entities

  • Participating in special projects and other tasks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a University degree

  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA)

  • Minimum of six years or more years of related work experience

  • An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and reporting standards

  • Working knowledge of SAP background

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of the CPA in-depth GST/HST course

  • Working knowledge of Vertex

  • Demonstrated time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple and competing priorities

  • Team player having the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines

  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
