What is this Opportunity?

The Senior Manager, HEF Analytics will play an integral role and is responsible for bringing HEF into the forefront of advanced analytics and data visualization tactics. The incumbent will primarily support the Analytics team, while also working with other members of the broader HEF team to deliver on key analytical priorities. The role will leverage data-driven tactics to deliver insights that will enable better understanding of client behaviour and trends to formulate strategies for business optimization, financial performance management, product and customer profitability, key segment understanding, retention/acquisition programs, targeted marketing, competitive intelligence/research, innovation and leading edge tools and practices. Furthermore, the incumbent will maintain ongoing reporting of the HEF portfolio and competitive landscape, providing key insights to the HEF senior leadership teams and key stakeholders.

What will you do?

Advanced Analytics – including Predictive Modeling

  • Leverage data-driven tactics to provide key analytical and business insights to support the leadership group in active management of the Home Equity portfolio.

  • Provide tactical backing to stakeholders by leading/participating in deep-dive analyses required to better understand key objectives and opportunities.

  • Proactively identify areas of improvement for the HEF portfolio in order to drive the following: incremental balance growth, revenue prospects, and areas creating synergy and optimizing overall costs.

  • Work collaboratively and advise on business decisions through use of reporting, leading edge analytics, measurement of key performance indicators, and early detection of trends & anomalies.

  • Develop and maintain report-backs on success of initiatives with regular cadence to ensure effective monitoring of expected outcomes. Communicate results to key stakeholders and ensure insights are managed to optimize future activities.

  • Participate in high-priority initiatives required to support the HEF and PFP senior management teams.

Big Data Visualization & Infrastructure

  • Support the development of future-state tools and capabilities to drive value-added insights and transparency for users across the organization.

  • Enhance the existing Tableau tools to incorporate on-going user feedback, identify possible synergies with other reports across HEF/PFP, deliver further efficiency through automation of processes, and expose timely and relevant information to end-users.

  • Collaborate with partners across RBC to identify new sources of information in order to augment current data elements and provide more in depth insights into profile & behaviour of clients.

  • Maintain existing data visualization framework by ensuring accurate and timely updates, optimize the tool performance to reduce lag/down times, and maintenance of user group(s) to ensure compliance with governance and code of conduct standards.

  • Enable capability to drive reporting of data visualization tool usage and ongoing report backs to provide an assessment of user needs.

  • Proactively research, and identify, new tools and capabilities in order to maintain market leading position on optimization of analytical, lead management and reporting activity.

Portfolio Management & Reporting

  • Deliver regular updates on the Monthly Business Review (MBR) providing key business intelligence to the Home Equity Finance leadership team and supporting partners.

  • Update market share results on a monthly basis, providing a granular view into the performance of RBC against its peers, while looking to continuously improve existing capabilities.

  • Support the development, and ongoing update, to the Quarterly Competitive analysis shared with senior executives across HEF and members of the Canadian Banking Operating Committee.

  • Support data aggregation from analyst calls of major banks in Canada, and highlight key insights as it pertains to their respective Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) portfolios. Report is aimed to help Senior Management identify key opportunities and if a change in the strategy is required to ensure HEF is able to reach its annual targets.

  • Obtain an in-depth understanding of the HEF products and segments in order to effectively provide value-added insights.

  • Create materials to communicate the insights developed either through new reporting or specific stakeholder presentations and working sessions.

  • Collaborate with partners across RBC to ensure data quality and integrity.

Mentoring & Coaching

  • Provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to colleagues across the Portfolio Management team.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in an analytical and reporting capacity supporting a line of business across major Financial Institution(s).

  • 1-2 years of past experience in Finance, Strategy, or central analytical roles supporting lending or investment products in the financial industry.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with past experience in providing in-depth insights to senior executives.

  • Ability impact and influence others through thought leadership and effective communication skills.

  • Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent job experience

  • Technical skills required: proficient in use of SAS, SQL, Tableau, Excel, PPT, or other data visualization tools

Nice to have:

  • Technical skills: proficiency in other programming languages (i.e. Python, Spark SQL, etc.)

  • Individual with growth mind-set capable of looking at the broader strategy, understanding client and staff needs, and effective understanding of the financial principles around banking operations.

  • Capable of demonstrating intellectual curiosity and ability to excel in all circumstances.

  • Positive attitude and ability to collaborate at any level, while mentoring others.
