About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently recruiting for a Senior, Optimization Engineer based in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, OT Advanced Solutions, the Optimization Engineer will be a key player in shaping the future of SAGD facilities through the design and deployment of Advanced Process Control (APC) and machine learning. This highly specialized role encompasses involvement in both new and existing APC projects, from the justification stage through to modifying engineering documentation and controller implementation.

The candidate will be adept at employing performance monitoring tools, harnessing the power of advanced data analytics, and deploying machine learning solutions for real-time optimization challenges. Apart from technical expertise, the role demands strong collaboration with various teams, advocating for changes based on APC applications' insights, and occasional travel to sites to ensure seamless integration of solutions. The role blends process engineering, process controls and software development to ensure our facilities run efficiently and sustainability by employing innovative solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead new APC projects and enhancements, from modifying engineering documentation to controller implementation. This includes both: Commercial deployment of APC applications and Internally developed advanced applications

  • Simulate and develop controllers, ensuring efficient implementation and training operations

  • Lead troubleshooting, enhancement and maintenance efforts on the installed APC and advanced process control applications

  • Development of performance monitoring tools for APC applications

  • Leverage advanced data analytics, machine learning, and statistical discovery to solve real-time optimization challenges

  • Enabling, optimizing, and troubleshooting data communication pathways for advanced applications

  • Development of Engineering Work Packages within the change management process to support the deployment of solutions

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • APEGA Professional Engineer designation or in progress, with a background in Process Control and APC

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in a related technical role

  • Understanding in plant control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA)

  • Understanding in advanced process control concepts

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use of modern programming languages and web technologies in an industrial or commercial application

  • Working knowledge of process engineering and its impact on facility optimization

  • Experience with management of change (MOC)
