Job Summary

ConocoPhillips Canada is currently seeking a Senior Process Engineer to deliver safe, reliable, fit for purpose, innovative and cost-effective designs. This role provides technical support and oversight of Process Engineering deliverables through all phases of the project life cycle: development, design, execution, start up and continuous operations. The position reports to the Director, Tech. Safety and Process Eng. and will be accountable for providing technical support to many facets of the organization including Development, Capital Projects, and Operations for the Surmont and Montney assets.
This role is based out of the Calgary office. Site visits are required.

Position Overview

Responsibilities Include:

  • Promote, support and adhere to ConocoPhillips Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system. To ensure that HSE issues are given priority consideration in all activities.

  • Leadership of larger development studies and capital projects technical assurance with coverage of operational support as required.

  • Development of Scope of Work and Basis of Design documents for projects through networking amongst all functions in support of a future-proof Basis of Design.

  • Provide technical mentoring of junior staff and contractors within the tech. safety and process engineering group and greater peer group within the Canadian Business Unit (e.g., Operations, Development, etc.).

  • Oversee technical work within group, responsible for checking junior and peer calculations and studies and/or approving checked calculations – shared with Director - Tech. Safety and Process Eng.

  • Perform/review project pre-feed studies (FEL 0 to FEL2), develop process configurations and support cost estimates.

  • Develop and/or provide technical assurance reviews of PFDs, P&IDs, Heat & Mass Balances, and other project related documents.

  • Provide process input in the development of operation, maintenance and start-up philosophies for new projects.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Professional Engineer registered with APEGA and/or EGBC.

  • 10+ years’ experience in the Oil and Gas Industry as a Process or Facility Engineer.

  • Proficient in understanding of well pad, bitumen treating, de-oiling, water treatment, and steam generation unit operations associated with SAGD assets.

  • Proficient in understanding of gas processing unit operations (inlet separation, amine sweetening, dehydration, stabilization, compression, fractionation, etc.).

  • Strong commitment to safety and support of CPC core values.

  • Strong knowledge of field operations troubleshooting, and implementation of solutions.

  • Ability to work within a diverse cultural environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong PC skills (such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • A self-starter, willing to work independently and across organizational boundaries.

  • Detail orientated and committed to constant improvement.

  • Solid understanding of ConocoPhillips CPMS system and FEL process an asset.

  • Experience in hydraulic sizing (including multiphase), equipment sizing, relief system calculations.

  • Familiar with crude oil characterization techniques.

  • Familiar with crude mixing viscosity and density nuances.

  • Exposure to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools.
