 About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to bring technical leadership and innovative thinking to our Conventional Heavy Oil (CHO) asset team. In this role, you’ll combine deep reservoir engineering expertise with advanced data analytics to deliver insights that shape both operational decisions and long-term strategy.

You’ll be at the forefront of base production forecasting, new well performance evaluation, and competitor analysis, while driving strategic reservoir initiatives that make a real impact. This is a hands-on, high-visibility position where you’ll:

  • Build and manage robust datasets

  • Create compelling visualizations that tell the story behind the numbers

  • Translate complex reservoir data into clear, actionable recommendations

We’re looking for a self-starter with a sharp analytical mindset, someone who thrives on solving complex problems and can seamlessly integrate engineering principles with data-driven workflows. If you’re passionate about turning technical insights into strategic advantage, this is your opportunity to lead and innovate.

What you’ll do

  • Drive production forecasting, reservoir surveillance, and performance analysis for CHO assets.

  • Own new well performance tracking—from type curve evaluation to early diagnostics and leadership updates.

  • Deliver competitor benchmarking and industry insights to shape well design, development strategy, and pacing.

  • Build and optimize datasets that power forecasting, monitoring, and strategic planning.

  • Create impactful dashboards and visualizations (Power BI or similar) for fast, data-driven decisions.

  • Spot gaps in data and workflows—then design and implement improvements with minimal oversight.

  • Apply core reservoir engineering principles—material balance, decline analysis, modeling, and pressure-transient interpretation—to generate actionable insights.

  • Collaborate across Geoscience, Production, Drilling & Completions, and Operations for integrated decision-making.

  • Provide technical input into strategic initiatives, long-range plans, and business cases.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) accredited with APEGA/APEGS

  • Minimum of 8 years of reservoir/production engineering experience Experience in heavy oil or multilateral well performance would be considered an asset.

  • Solid foundation in reservoir engineering, proven through projects that deliver real business impact.

  • Skilled with tools like AccuMap, PVR, SCADA, Power BI, Value Navigator (or similar).

  • Strong data analytics capabilities—wrangling, QC, visualization, and interpretation.

  • Comfortable working with large datasets and building automated workflows; experience with Python, SQL, or similar is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of machine learning or data science applied to subsurface or production data is an asset.

  • Ability to blend engineering fundamentals with analytics to enhance forecasting and performance diagnostics is considered an asset.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT, December 18, 2025.

Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values and in discussions with their current leader prior to determining next steps.
