About this opportunity:

The Senior Staff Process Engineer will provide technical depth and leadership in Front-End Development (FED) across our refinery assets, with a particular focus on large and complex capital project scopes. This role will bid, select and manage contractor performance as well as prepare work to progress project in FED . In addition, the Senior Staff Process Engineer partners with Senior Managers in FED to address performance issues and maintain consistency across the portfolio.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop project scopes, justifications, and Basis for Design (FED1/FED2), validating business needs, assess options, and define sustainable, low-cost solutions that strengthen the capital portfolio

  • Define and control scopes, schedules, and costs, ensuring safe site access and effective transition of work across project phases

  • Work with asset teams, Reliability, EHS, Procurement, and technical SMEs to align on project scope, risk management, compliance requirements, and engineering standards

  • Review and approve key engineering documents (PFDs, P&IDs, H&MBs, equipment sizing, process safety data), performing quality control on design deliverables, safeguarding work, and flare system studies

  • Participate in MOC, HazOps, and regulatory updates (PSM, RMP), ensuring engineering contractors document and follow design and safety standards

  • Prepare economic models to analyse return and complexity, and screen projects for the capital portfolio and long-range plan

  • Identify and develop projects that improve asset performance, margin growth, and strategic downstream initiatives

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

  • A member in good standing or eligible for registration with APEGA or APEGS

  • Minimum 16 years of refining process engineering and project engineering experience

  • Experience in multiple process units and a broad working knowledge of refinery unit operations

  • Strong technical computing literacy to support modeling, simulation and data analysis

  • Willing to travel approximately 30-50% of the time

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
