The opportunity
Our Gas Pipeline Strategy team is currently looking to add a Senior Strategy Analyst to the team, based at our head office in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Director, Natural Gas Pipelines Strategy, this position is responsible for assisting in the development and coordination of materials relevant to Gas Pipelines strategic direction. It will work collaboratively across departments to gather and distill key information informing the strategic decision-making process, and will provide financial, economic, and risk analysis to support the evaluation and assessment of investment opportunities including acquisitions and divestitures, asset specific optimization plans and other key strategic business initiatives and will interface with senior management and functional area subject matter experts across the organization.
What you'll do
- Assist in the development and execution of TC’s Natural Gas Strategy formulation and evaluation, including coordination of analysis, reports, presentations, executive summaries
- Aggregate relevant commercial information from across the organization and distill information into useful reports to aid in management decision making
- Collaborate with and assist TC’s capital markets group in debt and equity financings, as well as act as key support for credit rating agency tasks/presentations
- Conduct detailed financial analysis of development opportunities and existing assets requiring investment and/or commercial decisions
- Identify key project financial risks and benefits; propose commercial or structural alternatives to minimize risks while maximizing value
- Contribute to and coordinate as needed investment decision reports for management and Board approvals
- Participate in periodic peer reviews of companies within our industry (strategies, financial analysis, asset allocation, competencies)
- Monitor key market and industry trends within the energy infrastructure sector that are relevant to TC’s Natural Gas business and help track key signposts
- Support Business Planning as required; assist in the development, rollout and tracking of Functional strategy
- Collaborate with cross functional departments and provide support on special projects within the Natural Gas Pipelines Strategy department
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related relevant field (Statistics, Commerce, Economics)
- 10 years of related progressive experience
- Proven experience with Strategy Formulation including the coordination of analysis, reports, presentations and executive summaries
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an MBA (finance focus) or CFA
- Strategic understanding of the Natural Gas infrastructure business
- Working knowledge/understanding of Canadian and U.S. pipeline accounting and regulation
- Proven skills in collecting, gathering, visualizing and analyzing information in detail, including clearly synthesizing and communicating the results
This position requires candidates to:
- Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
- Travel across North America to other company or supplier locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 10% of work schedule)
