We’re looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to help us with timely and accurate compliance and risk mitigation in the domestic and global arenas of direct and indirect taxation. You’ll be working with external service providers and the Senior Director, Tax on the evolution and execution of Hootsuite’s compliance roadmap and participating in strategic initiatives impacting the department and company overall. 

In line with Hootsuite's distributed workforce strategy, our flexible work arrangement allows for remote work or a hybrid model. This role is open to applicants located within Canada. You will report to the Senior Director of Tax. This is a contract role with a duration of 12 months. 


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • You will own Hootsuite’s tax compliance process, staying abreast of changes and developments in Canadian, U.S. and international income and sales tax rules while being the main point of contact with external service providers, responsible for project timelines and providing them with timely and accurate information and instruction.
  • You will conduct nexus analysis and evaluate the international tax footprint related to business expansion.
  • You will own the sales tax reporting cycle for Hootsuite and its subsidiaries, which will include using sales tax tools i.e. Avalara and working with the finance team on booking and funding of the taxes.
  • You will support the preparation of the inter-company calculations and associated information reporting arising from Hootsuite’s global transfer pricing policies.
  • You will be responsible for supporting Hootsuite’s Tax Accounting processes, maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge of ASC 740, supporting preparation of the tax provision calculations with external services providers and responsible for determining appropriate accounting treatment for issues identified during the business cycle in cooperation with management.
  • You will be reviewing customer agreements, obtaining certifications of tax residence, communicating treaty benefits, and responding to business unit queries regarding sales taxes and withholding taxes.
  • You will play a key role in audit defense and other tax authority examinations by working with the Senior Director of Tax to develop strategies to respond to tax authority information and audit requests, supervise and coordinate the information gathering by responsible parties, and reviewing materials for accuracy, adequacy and presentation.
  • Provide support to other functional areas in the business through thoughtful consideration of the impact of tax issues and decisions in those business segments, ranging from the A/P and A/R teams to, Legal, Commercial Sales, People, Total Rewards and other teams with whom the tax department interacts.
  • Provide support to senior management in various department projects and other strategic initiatives as they arise.

  

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Considerable relevant experience in a corporate tax environment, within a firm or in industry with a multinational corporate group.
  • CPA designation, enrollment or completion of In-Depth Tax Course or Masters of Taxation.
  • Skilled with learning new software, including intermediate / advanced Excel skills, experience with an ERP system (Netsuite is a bonus).
