Let’s innovate the infinite, together.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
As a Senior Technical Writer, you’ll serve as the documentation lead supporting engineering and operational teams. You’ll drive the creation, governance, and lifecycle management of complex technical documentation that meets internal quality standards and regulatory expectations. Acting as a subject matter expert in documentation strategy and control, you’ll guide teams through structured documentation practices while ensuring technical accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery.

From high-level engineering manuals to detailed procedures and controlled documentation packages, you’ll manage documents from concept through final release and long-term maintenance. You’ll also mentor junior writers, improve documentation systems and standards, and represent documentation efforts during reviews, audits, and customer engagements.
An active U.S. Security Clearance is required for this position.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Documentation Leadership: Lead planning, content strategy, timelines, and formatting standards for complex engineering and operational technical documentation.
  • Technical Content Development: Author, edit, and oversee preparation of detailed manuals, procedures, specifications, and documentation packages, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, quality, and program teams to resolve technical, process, or documentation-related issues.
  • Information Analysis: Gather and synthesize highly technical information through SME interviews, process observation, system reviews, and research.
  • Document Control Governance: Lead document lifecycle processes including document numbering, revision tracking, review and approval workflows, release, and distribution of controlled documentation.
  • Documentation Project Management: Develop documentation project plans, statements of work (SOWs), cost estimates, and proposal inputs related to technical documentation efforts.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the documentation SME for management and customers; support technical reviews, audits, and customer-facing presentations.
  • Compliance & Security Guidance: Provide guidance on document security classification, export control considerations, and regulatory documentation requirements; train staff as needed.
  • Mentorship & Standards: Mentor junior technical writers and recommend improvements to documentation standards, templates, tools, policies, and procedures.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

  • Advanced Technical Documentation: Creating and overseeing complex technical manuals, procedures, specifications, and controlled engineering documentation.
  • Documentation Governance: Managing document lifecycle processes, configuration management, and formal change control in regulated or quality-driven environments.
  • Technical Interpretation: Understanding engineering and operational systems deeply enough to translate highly technical concepts into clear, structured documentation.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Guiding teams, mentoring writers, and influencing stakeholders to follow documentation best practices.
  • Process Improvement: Identifying documentation gaps, risks, and inefficiencies, and implementing scalable, compliant solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, or a related technical field required (equivalent combination of education and advanced documentation experience may be considered).
  • 7 or more years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, or documentation control within engineering, manufacturing, or operational environments.
  • Strong technical background supporting engineering or operational systems preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of engineering and/or operational principles and expert-level knowledge of technical document preparation.
  • Extensive experience developing complex technical manuals, procedures, specifications, and controlled documentation packages.
  • Advanced proficiency with documentation and publishing tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and document management/control systems.
  • Strong experience with configuration management, document lifecycle governance, and formal change control processes.
  • Proven ability to interpret, organize, and communicate complex technical data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to identify documentation gaps, process risks, and inefficiencies, and implement effective, compliant solutions.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills with experience supporting management reviews and customer interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead documentation initiatives, mentor others, and collaborate in dynamic, cross-functional environments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, ensure regulatory and contractual compliance, and adapt to evolving program requirements.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance is required.
