Strathcona is committed to doing business the right way, guided by our core values: Integrity, Energy, and Intelligence. We are actively seeking a Site Closure Coordinator to join our Closure team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Closure, this role is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of area-based site closure programs focused on remediation, reclamation, and liability reduction activities to support the management of Strathcona’s inactive liability and Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO).

Essential Functions

  • Lead the development and execution of site closure strategy, including program sequencing, budgeting, and delivery, with a focus on integrating complex and high-risk sites (e.g., contamination, regulatory-driven work) into overall plans.

  • Manage progressive programs, including sites impacted by contamination, incomplete environmental assessments, or additional monitoring requirements.

  • Coordinate environmental consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders across sites with evolving scope and closure requirements.

  • Drive efficient field execution while balancing contractor constraints, cost pressures, and scope variability.

  • Provide technical and administrative guidance to support planning, execution, and issue resolution across the closure portfolio.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within approved budgets, maintaining alignment between scope, schedule, and cost.

  • Deliver detailed and accurate reporting on project scope, schedules, budget status, and key risks.

  • Oversee project administration and maintain audit-defensible documentation using internal systems and tracking tools.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, landowners, and cross-functional teams.

  • Ensure all activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, corporate policies, and HS standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, or an Environmental Technician diploma/certificate combined with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Comprehensive experience managing environmental projects, including contaminated sites, regulatory-driven work, environmental assessments, remediation, reclamation, and site closure activities.

  • Strong understanding of environmental management principles, project management methodologies, and industry best practices.

  • Knowledge of Alberta environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, liability management frameworks, and closure obligations.

  • Demonstrated project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and budgets in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with regulators, landowners, contractors, consultants, and cross-functional teams.

  • Proficient with SiteView, Smartsheet, Aucerna, AbaData, Microsoft Office, and GIS/mapping applications, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, audit-defensible records.

  • Self-motivated team player with sound judgment, a results-oriented mindset, and a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Great things aren’t done by one person, they’re done by a team.

We believe meaningful results come from people with unwavering commitment to integrity, energy, and intelligence – how we show up matters just as much as what we deliver. We value our work, our communities, and our commitments – but most of all, we value the team of people who make what we do possible.
