Role Summary
The Solution Engineer (SE) is a QCC problem-finder and solution driver for the Frontier program. The SE identifies systemic constraints to quality and delivery across the SDLC-especially where complex integrations, tooling, environments, and assurance gates create friction-then designs and delivers practical, scalable solutions. The role supports teams executing end-to-end validation while also delivering reusable solutions and accelerators for the wider QCC.
This role aligns to the Frontier Quality Strategy principles: quality throughout the SDLC, risk-based decisioning, automation to tighten feedback loops, augmenting the value chain with AI, and leveraging existing enterprise standards and the "chain of trust."
Mission
Safeguard Frontier delivery outcomes by continuously:
- identifying high-impact quality/delivery problems early
- diagnosing root causes across systems and teams
- delivering durable solutions that prevent recurrence and accelerate flow
Core Responsibilities
1) Systemic Problem Identification & Prioritisation
- Continuously mine signals (test outcomes, pipeline telemetry, defect trends, environment incidents, release friction, manual handoffs) to surface recurring constraints and risks.
- Maintain a prioritised "Top Problems" backlog with clear problem statements, leading indicators, target outcomes, and measures of success.
2) Solution Design & Delivery (Reusable by Default)
- Design solution options spanning process, tooling, automation, and integration guardrails; quantify impact and align stakeholders.
- Deliver solutions directly (scripts/tools, pipeline improvements, readiness checks, dashboards) and/or drive implementation through partner teams.
- Standardise and productise repeatable approaches so they can be adopted across QCC (templates, golden paths, reference implementations).
3) Integration Readiness, Assurance Acceleration, and Risk-Based Gating
- Engineer pre-flight and readiness mechanisms that prevent late-stage failures (dependency health checks, config drift detection, contract-style validations where appropriate).
- Improve assurance gate effectiveness and speed by shifting confidence earlier in the lifecycle and reducing reliance on slow, brittle checks.
- Implement and tune risk-based gating aligned to defined thresholds and acceptance criteria (what must block vs what must be visible).
4) Automation to Tighten Feedback Loops
- Identify high-ROI automation opportunities (repetitive, high-volume, failure-prone activities) and implement them to reduce cycle time.
- Optimise execution workflows (suite selection, tagging, parallelisation, stabilisation patterns) to improve reliability and reduce waste.
- Improve diagnosability via consistent artifacts, enriched run context, and actionable runbooks/playbooks.
5) AI Enablement (Aligned to SDLC "Powertrain" Initiatives)
- Identify and operationalise AI use-cases that measurably reduce manual effort and accelerate assurance activities (e.g., failure summarisation/clustering, ownership suggestion, issue enrichment, knowledge retrieval, assisted test creation with review).
- Align with Liberty AI-in-the-SDLC "powertrain" initiatives and approved patterns/tools; reuse before building, and avoid duplicating existing capabilities.
- Ensure AI usage follows LM safety/security procedures and includes appropriate guardrails (accuracy checks, auditability, data handling).
6) Liberty Ecosystem & Architecture Alignment
- Work with the wider Liberty ecosystem of architects and technical leaders to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, tool selection direction, and quality governance.
- Contribute improvements back into shared standards and tooling where possible to maximise leverage and consistency across the program.
Key Deliverables
- Prioritised "Top Problems" backlog with measurable outcomes and delivered fixes.
- Readiness and guardrail mechanisms for integrated flows (pre-flight checks, validations, monitors).
- Reusable QCC accelerators: templates, shared utilities, dashboards, runbooks, and reference implementations.
- AI-enabled workflow accelerators integrated into day-to-day ways of working, aligned to the SDLC powertrain.
Success Measures
- Reduced recurring failure classes, lower flake rate, and fewer preventable disruptions.
- Reduced manual triage effort and faster time-to-diagnosis/time-to-fix.
- Faster and more predictable feedback cycles and improved release confidence.
- Increased "chain of trust" traceability coverage (requirements → tests → release signals).
- Cross-QCC adoption of delivered solutions (reuse is a first-class measure).
- Demonstrable cycle-time improvements attributable to automation and/or AI, aligned with Liberty initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience
- Ten years of related software engineering experience
- A comprehensive understanding of agile environments
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and emerging technologies
- A history of practicing DevOps and SecOps
- A strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industry
Skills
- Solid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilities
- Ability to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutions
- Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances
- A design thinking and test-driven development mindset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an aptitude for working in teams
- Knowledge
- Experience developing or architecting cloud-hosted, responsive web applications using Java, HTML5 and CSSS3
- Strong background in code review
- High-level proficiency with client-side JavaScript frameworks, server-side frameworks, and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with event-based System of Engagement architectures and integration with API exposing microservices
- Deep understanding of layered solutions and designs
- Cognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processes
- Understanding of DCI/MDM systems, data ingestion and cloud-scale data sets
Education
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
