Reporting to the Manager, Internal Compliance, we are looking for a Senior Advisor, Internal Compliance to join our Internal Compliance team. In this position you will play a pivotal role in the execution and continuous improvement of the Internal Compliance Program (ICP) and will support various business activities related to meeting and administering the compliance objectives of the AESO, including but not limited to the coordination of audits, mock audits, internal monitoring activities, internal control oversight and development, self-certification and self-report assessments and submissions.
Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborate and communicate effectively with various internal business units to support their accountabilities for compliance with authoritative documents (Alberta Reliability Standards, ISO rules, key Alberta legislation, ISO Tariff, etc.) and provide practical advice to enhance the AESO’s demonstration of compliance and improvements to internal controls.
Participate in cross functional projects and initiatives.
Ensure the execution of the ICP and supporting processes provide effective and reasonable assurance that the AESO’s compliance obligations with authoritative documents in scope of the ICP are being met.
Provide relevant data for reporting purposes and enhance data analytics and reporting capabilities of the IC function.
Perform monitoring and analysis with respect to authoritative documents.
Mentor AESO Employees in the effective execution of the ICP.
Support the Manager, Internal Compliance to:
Develop communication strategies to facilitate AESO employee learning activities to promote a culture of compliance, heightened awareness of the AESO’s compliance obligations, and improved understanding of compliance issues, policies, and procedures.
Plan and coordinate audits, mock audits, internal monitoring activities, self-certification and self-report assessments and submissions, which may include providing notification internally and working with operational business units to ensure adequate planning, preparation and execution.
Identify the risks associated with delivery of the ICP and ensure measures are in place for the appropriate mitigation of those risks.
Develop the annual training plan.
What you’ll bring to us:
Post secondary education within Business, Engineering or related discipline.
Professional CIA certification is an asset
Minimum of ten years of relevant experience (e.g. execution of external or internal compliance monitoring, risk management or auditing programs, experience in interpreting and applying legislation and/or regulation)
Knowledge of the Alberta and/or North American power industry including applicable regulations, reliability standards/criteria and practices is an asset.
Excellent relationship management skills.
Demonstrated ability to deliver effective verbal and written communications.
Proven ability to articulate a finding, recommendation, and technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently, with conscientious attention to detail and ability to meet defined timelines.
Extensive skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions.
Experience in providing effective guidance and training.
