We're looking for a Senior Cloud and Unix/Linux Specialist who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
The role will be responsible for design, Implementation and maintenance of all Unix and Linux based systems within the organization.
This role involves managing server infrastructure, optimizing performance, ensuring security compliance, and providing technical support to various teams. The specialist will also lead initiatives for system upgrades, automation, and troubleshooting complex issues, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance overall IT operations.
Minimum Requirements:

Computer Science Degree or Technical Diploma
-
10+ years IT operations and / or IT project execution experience including comprehensive, including in-depth knowledge of Linux and Unix server operating systems
-
Expert level knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with a strong track record in system administration, performance tuning, security management and scripting and coding.

General knowledge of Windows server operating systems, VMWare, RHEL, and storage technology

Hands-on experience in provisioning and configuration including
- Minimum 5 years within Azure cloud platform
- Minimum 3 years with container platforms
- Automation and Coding experience – Terraform, Ansible

Experience in public and private cloud environments, IT infrastructure operations (server/workload, storage/data protection, networks), for various cloud service models

Cloud Certifications: Current AWS or Azure certifications or a firm commitment to obtain one. Preference will be given to candidates with existing certifications.

Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead projects or teams, with a history of mentoring others and driving technical initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:

Linux Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert for RHEL, managing, maintaining, and optimizing our Linux infrastructure for performance, security, reliability and automation.

Unix expertise: adept at supporting our current Solaris infrastructure, troubleshooting any arising issues, and leading efforts to decommission these systems while migrating the applications to run on cloud platforms.

Security: Kernel tuning, system hardening, patch management, compliance management, vulnerability management

Monitoring and Logging: Experience with monitoring solutions and tools, defining thresholds, metrics

Cloud Integration: Leverage your experience with AWS or Azure to architect, deploy, and manage cloud solutions that integrate seamlessly with our existing systems, ensuring configuration efficiency.

Automation and Scripting: Use your proficiency in Bash, yaml, or other scripting languages to automate processes, reducing manual efforts and enhancing system consistency.

Leadership and Mentorship: Lead by example, guide junior team members, contribute to team strategy, and foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage in CCA's cross-functional initiatives, taking on tasks outside your immediate role to support team goals and contribute to broader company objectives.

Incident Management: Play a key role in resolving critical incidents, ensuring rapid response, and implementing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.

Knowledge Sharing: Regularly contribute to team meetings with ideas, feedback, and enhancements, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence.

Documentation and Project management: extensive experience with Confluence and JIRA, focusing on creating, updating, and maintaining clear, comprehensive documentation and managing tasks and workflows, with a commitment to frequent updates to keep pace with changes in systems, processes, or project scope.

This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W

Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
