We are looking for someone to join the HRIS team within the HR Process, Technology & Analytics organization at Suncor, reporting to the Manager HRIS. This Senior HRIS Advisor is responsible for supporting the configuration, maintenance and optimization of Suncor’s Human Capital Management (HCM) system - Workday. As a Senior Advisor, this role will act as a subject matter expert, providing product leadership for our platform to ensure Workday delivers maximum value to Suncor. This position is ideal for an experienced Workday professional who enjoys balancing hands-on system work with process improvement and stakeholder engagement.In this role, you will be supporting the configuration, maintenance and optimization of Suncor’s Workday HCM platform. This role will serve as Workday SME, ensuring our system delivers maximum value while guiding system reliability, usability, enhancements, and improvements while supporting multiple business units. Working under general direction from the Manager, HRIS, you’ll work independently to lead and provide core HR systems support and contribute to increasingly complex initiatives across the business.
Minimum Requirements:
10+ years of progressive HR experience, including a senior or lead-level role in HRIS.
Advanced, hands‑on experience with Workday HCM, including configuration and system optimization.
Workday certifications (HCM, Recruiting, Compensation, etc.) and/or HRIS or Project Management certifications (e.g., CHRP, PMP).
Experience with Workday reporting tools, analytics, or calculated fields.
Strong technical HRIS knowledge with the ability to work independently and support complex HR system needs.
Experience working across at least two or more business units (critical for this level).
Ability to lead small initiatives or act as a team lead with general direction from an HR/HRIS Manager.
Strong collaboration, problem‑solving, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
Excellent communication and time management skills along with high attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Configure, maintain, and optimize Suncor’s Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
Manage Workday updates, releases, testing, deployments, and maintain system documentation.
Ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with legislative and organizational requirements.
Act as a subject‑matter expert, providing product and platform leadership to ensure Workday delivers maximum value.
Support HR processes by delivering core HRIS services independently at the business‑unit level and Translate business and HR requirements into scalable Workday solutions.
Lead or coordinate increasingly complex assignments and contribute to process improvements.
Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple business units, offering guidance and system expertise.
Partner with IT and vendors to deliver Workday solutions on time and within scope.
Location and other Key Details:
This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 –6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
