Staff Accountant

Canada-based remote role. PST time zone required.

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Staff Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities. This role is hands-on and includes responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer account support, payroll processing, month-end close activities, and audit support.

The ideal candidate communicates effectively, maintains a high degree of accuracy, and works independently. They proactively investigate issues and take ownership of solutions. This role is well suited for an early-career professional or someone with 2–4 years of experience who is eager to learn and grow with a dynamic organization.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process and post vendor invoices in a timely and precise manner
  • Prepare payables reports and process vendor payments directly in the bank
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices in accordance with contractual agreements
  • Apply payments and record all related bank transactions in QuickBooks Online
  • Maintain well-organized and complete records of vendor invoices, agreements, and supporting documentation
  • Act as the primary point of contact for vendors and customers regarding invoicing, payments, and account inquiries

Month-End Close & Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and prepaids
  • Ensure all vendor invoices, customer transactions, and cash activity are properly recorded for the period
  • Prepare and post revenue recognition files and ensure accuracy
  • Post and reconcile credit card transactions
  • Support payroll processing and posting of payroll journal entries
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, identify unusual variances, and investigate or escalate as appropriate
  • Assist with annual audit preparation, including compiling working papers and audit samples
  • Support ad-hoc accounting projects and analysis as assigned by the Controller

Customer & Subscription Support

  • Follow up on outstanding customer balances using established processes and communication templates
  • Update customer subscriptions, and billing information as requested
  • Process refunds and credits in accordance with company policies
  • Communicate professionally with customers via email and, when necessary, by phone to resolve billing inquiries and collections matters

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort speaking with customers and vendors
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and perform effectively under time constraints
  • Proactive and self-directed, able to investigate issues, take ownership, and work effectively with limited supervision
  • Comfortable working with large Excel-based datasets and applying logical problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn and grow their skillset

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Early-career candidates or those with 2–4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online is an asset
  • Experience in a remote work environment is an asset
  • Experience supporting subscription billing is an asset

 Salary Range $60,000 - $75,000 CAD per year based on experience
