Position Overview:The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily transportation and logistics operations to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods across the network. This role leads a team of logistics professionals, manages vendor relationships, and drives continuous improvement in service performance, safety, and operational efficiency.

Job Description:

Transportation Operations

  • Supervise daily inbound and outbound transportation activities, including reverse logistics.
  • Monitor logistics service providers (LSPs) to ensure adherence to delivery schedules, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Support freight audit processes and assist in resolving transportation-related claims (damage, loss, service failures).
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to reduce manual tasks.
  • Act as point of contact for escalations; resolve complaints related to logistics operations.
  • Ensure alignment with customer service expectations and internal SLAs.

Vendor Coordination

  • Maintain regular communication with vendors to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Participate in vendor performance reviews and contribute to strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Provide feedback on vendor performance and escalate issues as needed.
  • Assist in implementing vendor management programs and support procurement during RFP processes.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and transportation regulations.
  • Promote a safety-first culture within the team and vendor network.
  • Conduct regular audits and ensure documentation is up to date.

Performance & Reporting

  • Review and validate transportation data for KPI reporting.
  • Support system updates and troubleshooting for transportation management systems (TMS).
  • Prepare operational reports and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Use data insights to recommend operational improvements.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing logistics team.
  • Foster collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.

Specific Skills:

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities to manage complex logistics scenarios.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management across internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in logistics systems and MS Excel.
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with broader operational priorities.
  • Analytical skills for interpreting transportation data and identifying trends.
  • Leadership and team-building skills to foster engagement and accountability.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced environments and changing priorities.

Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of transportation and logistics operations.
  • Familiarity with freight forwarding, carrier management, and supply chain principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience managing third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and vendor relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan TMS or similar).
  • Understanding of cost control, budgeting, and performance metrics in logistics.
  • Knowledge of team leadership principles and workforce scheduling.

Education & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in transportation and logistics operations.
  • 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience
  • Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, SCMP, etc.) are considered an asset.
