THE ROLE:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a new university graduate to start and grow their career in Accounting within the tax team at PETRONAS Canada. We are searching for a Tax Accountant to join our team in Calgary on a temporary contract. Reporting to the Manager, Tax, the successful candidate will provide analysis to support PETRONAS Canada’s corporate tax planning initiatives and activities. The candidate will be an integral part of the tax team and will be involved in various aspects of tax compliance and planning in both the corporate tax and indirect tax areas.
This is a 6-month temporary position.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Develop skills in using SAP to support the tax function in building reports, analyzing accounting transactions, applying tax principles, and collaborating with the financial reporting team on tax driven projects

  • Prepare initial analysis, Excel models, and research relating to a suite of tax issues with a growth mindset focused on building skills and knowledge to support the tax team and larger finance function

  • Provide timely support to resolve tax issues brought forward by vendors, operations, and other stakeholders

  • Assist in tax compliance filings including, GST returns, BC PST and other annual filings as needed

  • Effectively communicate and escalate issues/information on a timely basis to the tax team

  • Initial research of various tax issues (corporate tax, GST, and/or BC PST) and preparation of memoranda to support recommendations and conclusions

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements across the tax function and areas for digital efficiency

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Experience within the oil and gas industry would be a benefit

  • Experience with OpenInvoice and SAP is an asset

  • Experience working with MS Office is an asset

  • Highly motivated team player and self-starter who focuses on getting the job done, accurately and completely

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
