Boon is the professional AI platform built specifically for construction. Founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023 by product and engineering leaders from Samsara, Apple, Google and DoorDash. Boon is backed by leading Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
Our AI agents embed directly into existing workflows, from preconstruction estimating to bid management. They automate the repetitive tasks that drain time and margins while surfacing the insights leaders need to make faster and more confident decisions.
The result is measurable impact. Teams move faster, bids are submitted sooner, win rates increase, and costs are reduced. Boon enables construction companies to build more, generate more revenue, and grow with confidence.
As a Technical Lead, Computer Vision Engineer at Boon, you'll lead the technical direction of our AI and computer vision work. You'll join an existing team of AI engineers solving complex vision problems for the construction industry, with a focus on extracting structured, precise data from construction plans, blueprints, and floor plans. This requires genuine computer vision capabilities, not just text extraction, including detailed geometric reasoning like measuring line lengths and identifying spatial relationships.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll build and improve our ML infrastructure, develop and evaluate models, and collaborate with customers and construction consultants to understand the problems we need to solve. You'll work alongside other AI engineers and technical leads to set architectural direction and tackle the hardest technical challenges.
In this role, you will:Lead the technical direction for AI and computer vision at Boon, working with an established team of AI engineers.
Build and improve ML infrastructure, data pipelines, and evaluation frameworks.
Develop and deploy computer vision models (CNNs, vision transformers) to extract detailed information from construction documents.
Assess whether current solutions will scale to meet evolving business needs, and design new approaches when they won't.
Collaborate with customers and construction industry consultants to understand requirements and inform technical priorities.
Partner with other AI engineers and technical leads to brainstorm solutions and solve hard technical problems.
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of ML systems, from prototyping through production deployment and maintenance.
You want to make a big impact in construction, an industry that builds the world around us.
You have deep experience with computer vision problems like document layout analysis, object detection, segmentation, OCR, and geometric/spatial reasoning.
You thrive in applied, product-focused environments where the goal is solving real customer problems, not publishing papers.
You are comfortable with technical leadership that involves setting direction and mentoring without direct management responsibilities.
You can navigate ambiguous situations, make quick decisions with incomplete information, and iterate based on what you learn.
You value teamwork, celebrate successes together, and provide mutual support within the team.
You use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as part of your daily workflow. We use these tools extensively and expect you to as well.
7+ years of experience in computer vision and machine learning.
Production ML experience: you have deployed and maintained ML systems in production, not just research or prototyping.
Strong background in relevant CV techniques including layout analysis, object detection, segmentation, OCR, and geometric reasoning.
Experience with model development using CNNs, vision transformers, or similar architectures.
Proficiency in Python (or ability to ramp up quickly).
Experience working with AI coding tools. Our interview process will include using these tools, and you'll use them daily on the job.
Strong collaboration and communication skills. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, customers, and fellow engineers.
Ability to own technical decisions and drive projects from conception through production.
At Boon, we want to attract and retain the best employees and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate’s skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. This estimate can vary based on the above mentioned factors, so the actual starting annual base salary may be above or below this range. A Boon employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company.
