As an Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management and development of an underwriting unit with the objective of promoting a disciplined underwriting culture, with a focus on effective portfolio and product management for Auto lines in the Western Region. The successful candidate will also coordinate overall underwriting strategies for the region with the Vice President, Commercial Mid-Market.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coaches, leads and develops a team of underwriting staff to produce and underwrite business within the branch to achieve branch profit, sales and growth objectives.
  • Assists Underwriters and Underwrites large complex risks with renewal and production targets
  • Drives regional and branch initiatives and business strategies in order to achieve profit, sales and growth objectives.
  • Reviews and manages the application of underwriting policy and pricing for all risks within an assigned book of business.
  • Develops, maintains and cultivates broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
  • Keeps current on region/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.
  • Ensure a positive, professional company image is maintained within the business community, the insurance industry and the producers selling our product.
  • Manages work and business flow within the department through work assignment and referral procedures.


May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with proven ability to motivate, coach and support a team of professionals.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Customer service focused. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong presentation and marketing skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills. Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to conceptualize details and develop action plans for problem solving and decision making.
  • Proficiency working with computers, specifically with MS Office Suite


Education and Experience

  • University degree desired plus a minimum of 8 years of commercial property & casualty industry experience. Previous experience in a management capacity is preferred.
  • CIP designation preferred.
