Build it, Ship it, Own it

At Sangoma, we build the technology that keeps businesses connected. Every call, every transfer, every interaction matters. This role sits at the center of that experience. You’ll be shaping how real work gets done, on devices used every day in high-stakes environments. From front desks to contact centers, your work will define how quickly, clearly, and reliably people communicate. If you care about clarity, speed, and systems that just work, this is your space. We are looking for an experienced UX Product Designer to play a critical role in shaping the user experience of Sangoma’s desk phones and telephony devices, focused on embedded, hardware-contained device experiences.

Sangoma is dedicated to empowering organizations through reliable Unified Communications, UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, and Hybrid solutions. In this role, you will focus on how our desk phone products work, not just how they look—designing clear, efficient, and predictable iteraction models for task-critical communication workflows. While this is a remote position, we are looking for someone in either eastern or central time zones.

Requirements

Your Role:

  • Design how communication actually happens.
  • Own the end-to-end UX of Sangoma’s desk phone and device experiences, from interaction models to execution
  • Design for embedded, hardware-constrained environments with physical inputs, limited screens, and real-time expectations
  • Define task-driven workflows for core telephony functions: calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, call handling, and more
  • Create clear, scalable interaction patterns that prioritize speed, predictability, and low cognitive load
  • Translate complex communication workflows into simple, intuitive user experiences
  • Develop UX artifacts including flows, wireframes, interaction specs, and system behaviors
  • Partner closely with firmware engineers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and perform reliably in production
  • Work with Product to align UX decisions with real-world usage, customer needs, and business outcomes
  • Anticipate edge cases, failure states, and recovery paths in real-time communication scenarios
  • Contribute to usability testing and iterate based on real user behavior
  • Help drive consistency and usability across Sangoma’s broader device ecosystemYou will be responsible for defining and evolving the interaction models, task flows, and usability foundations of Sangoma’s phone firmware and device interfaces.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience (3 years preferred) in UX and user interface design, product design, or interaction design.
  • You are naturally curious, eager to learn, and motivated to understand how design decisions translate into real behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, task-focused, workflow-driven interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of human–computer interaction (HCI) principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention.
  • Comfortable prioritizing clarity, reliability, and speed of use over visual expressiveness when necessary
  • Ability to communicate UX rationale clearly to engineers and non-design stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar
  • Experience working in cross-functional Agile product teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience with telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communications products
  • Experience designing for constrained or non-traditional platforms, such as embedded devices, hardware products, enterprise tools, or operational systems
  • Understanding of localization and internationalization considerations
  • Prior exposure to usability testing or field studies in enterprise or operational environments

Benefits

What We Offer:

    • Extended Healthcare Plan (Medical, Disability, Dental & Vision)
    • RPP - Group RRSP
    • Group Life - AD&D - Critical Illness Insurance
    • Paid Time Off Benefits
