AlertMedia Career Growth & Development
AlertMedia Employee Perspectives
As I think about the next phase of my career, I want to be in an environment where I can develop my skills, round out my business acumen and be a part of a team with a mission to do good. AlertMedia does just that, and it’s motivating.

The culture of growth is so evident at AlertMedia. It’s one of the main reasons why I would rather work here than anywhere else.

Having the space and opportunity to learn new software skills gave me the tools and ability to develop my existing talents and expand the types of learning experiences I can offer.

What makes promotion criteria feel fair and clear — and what evidence supports it?
AlertMedia’s people team has partnered with our leadership team to develop leveling guides which outline career pathing and skills required to be promoted. Having the opportunity to see the required skills in writing was helpful as it made me realize I was already naturally doing a lot of what was outlined in the guide, one of those things being mentorship.
My manager did a great job recognizing my skill set and noticed I was someone other team members went to for support. They encouraged me to take a more formal mentor role with a new team member to further build my skills; I soon realized that I enjoyed taking on responsibilities that managers commonly focus on, furthering my interest in pursuing that as my next career move.
I also had recurring quarterly career conversations with my manager in which I discussed my career goals and specific steps I could take to continue building the skills outlined in the leveling guides. Between these two, I was able to convey my readiness for people leadership and focus on the skills needed to succeed. When the opportunity arose, I had the clarity, confidence and support needed to move forward with the interview process for a manager role.
Which program most improved your capability in your role — and what changed after?
I was able to participate in the first ever cohort of AlertMedia’s Aspire program. Aspire is an emerging leaders development program for individual contributors at AlertMedia who have an interest in growing into future people leadership roles while expanding their influence.
Aspire focused on core leadership skills such as emotional intelligence, trust-building, candid feedback and influential communication. The emotional intelligence focus gave me a clear framework for how leaders show up, make decisions and influence others. It helped me articulate my readiness for people leadership by grounding my approach in how I build trust, communicate and support others, not just in what I personally deliver. I left the program with a clearer picture of how I wanted to lead and concrete ways to apply those skills in a management role.
When I stepped into my new role, Aspire accelerated my transition from an individual contributor mindset to a people leader mindset. Instead of focusing primarily on execution, I became more intentional about how my behavior, communication and emotional responses impact my team.
What manager or mentor behavior consistently accelerates growth?
Early in my career, having a manager who maintained a consistent feedback cadence accelerated my growth and helped me build confidence. Now as a manager, I lean into that same strong feedback cadence as a way to help my team grow. Regular, timely feedback gives people clarity on what’s working and what to adjust, shortening learning cycles and building confidence. Feedback is most effective when it is normalized and ongoing.
Feedback is helpful for many different stages of a career. As a new hire, regular feedback helps create clarity around expectations, builds confidence and allows for course correction early on. For consistent performers, ongoing feedback reinforces strengths, maintains alignment and highlights stretch opportunities to prevent stagnation. For high performers, frequent feedback sharpens impact, sustains momentum and supports readiness for the next level.

What new skill or role did you want to learn, and why was this important to you?
I wanted to grow into a role where I could use my experience to make a broader impact across the organization as a cross-functional partner. I started at AlertMedia as a sales development representative, moved into Implementation and eventually found my path to learning and development. With each move, I began to recognize and deepen expertise in that the skills I enjoyed using most — for example, active listening, anticipating needs, collaboration and helping others succeed — were foundational to the work of our learning and development team.
As I moved through each role I’ve held at AlertMedia, I gained a deeper understanding of our customers, our teams and what employees need to be successful. Moving into learning and development brought those experiences and strengths together, giving me the opportunity to positively impact our culture, help employees grow and enable customer operations to provide the best possible experience for our customers.
How did AlertMedia help support this time of learning and/or professional development?
Throughout my time at AlertMedia, across multiple departments and roles, the support for my development has always been consistent. My managers and leaders have taken the time to understand what I enjoy, where my strengths are and how I want to grow. Even when I did not recognize certain skills or strengths in myself, they saw that potential and helped me see it, too. Their guidance and recommendations gave me opportunities to take on new challenges, work across teams and develop the skills that ultimately helped me land where I am today. I also took advantage of quarterly professional development opportunities offered by our learning and development team, with topics ranging from executive presence and personal brand to expanding my software skills.
Most recently, AlertMedia continued to support my growth through the Aspire Emerging Leaders Program. Aspire gave me the opportunity to reflect on my leadership style and strengthen skills like communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability and building trust.
What was the outcome of this experience? How did it impact your future growth in your profession?
As I continued building my skills through AlertMedia’s professional development opportunities, my managers encouraged me to think about what I was passionate about and where I could make the greatest impact. I realized learning and development brought together what I enjoyed most: supporting others, working across teams, improving the employee experience and helping customer operations deliver the best experience for our customers.
I transitioned into my current learning and development role, where I support customer operations through onboarding, training and ongoing enablement. Since then, Aspire has helped me recognize my strengths and identify how I want to continue developing as a leader. I’m putting those skills into practice as a mentor in AlertMedia’s formal mentorship program, supporting another employee’s development by drawing on my prior experiences and knowledge. Together, these cumulative experiences have helped me find a meaningful career while continuing to shape where I want to grow next.
