Teams at Legal Aid Alberta

Represents clients charged with criminal offences through bail hearings, pleas, sentencing, trials, reviews, and appeals. Develops litigation strategies, provides legal advice, prepares court documents, negotiates with Crown prosecutors, and advocates before Alberta courts. Maintains detailed client files, collaborates with justice stakeholders, supports vulnerable clients, and contributes to mentorship and professional excellence. The role requires occasional travel to circuit court locations.

Conduct compliance audits of roster lawyer billing, invoices, contracts, and organizational policies. Analyze records, identify billing risks and noncompliance, develop audit plans, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and present clear reports to management. The role also develops audit procedures, supports external auditors, monitors controls, and contributes to continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.

Investigates lawyer quality-of-service and compliance complaints, coordinates audits and complex investigations, reviews billing practices, and recommends remedial or disciplinary actions. The role advises senior management, prepares reports and presentations, coordinates with regulators and law enforcement, and ensures roster lawyers comply with Legal Aid Alberta policies, tariffs, and applicable legal standards.
