Design, engineer, and optimize protein-based biosensors that convert neuronal activity into imaging signals. Build and characterize protein variants using computational design, directed evolution, combinatorial libraries, mammalian expression systems, and high-throughput assays. Collaborate with machine learning, biochemical, structural biology, and computational teams to model sequence-function relationships, develop screening methods, understand biomolecular mechanisms, and advance constructs toward in vivo applications.

Build and own ML infrastructure for distributed training, inference, experiment tracking, model registries, and CI/CD. Enable active-learning and closed-loop optimization, collaborate with computational scientists, and mentor colleagues to translate research prototypes to production-grade systems.

The Senior Recruiter will manage full-cycle recruiting for technical and scientific roles at Merge Labs, partnering with hiring managers and sourcing passive candidates in competitive markets.

Develop data-analysis pipelines bridging ultrasound, synthetic biology, imaging and sequencing. Collaborate with wet-lab and ML teams to define objectives, encode priors, run ML pipelines for de-novo design and closed-loop active learning, and produce actionable insights to accelerate molecule discovery and device optimization.

Own mechanical architecture and packaging for high-density BCI hardware from R&D prototypes to production. Rapidly prototype using 3D printing/CNC, perform thermal modeling, design scientist-facing fixtures and tooling, define quantitative acceptance criteria, drive EVT/DVT/PVT and DFM/DFA with vendors, and establish mechanical reliability and repeatability testing protocols.

Lead architecture, design, validation, and productization of mixed-signal electronics and instrumentation for high-bandwidth brain interfaces. Own PCB/system architecture, SI/PI, EMC/EMI, power, clocks/triggers, automated test and manufacturing transfer. Build reusable scientist-facing measurement hardware, define quantitative performance criteria, collaborate cross-functionally, manage vendors/CMs, and mentor engineers to establish EE best practices.

As a Research Associate at Merge Labs, you will conduct experiments in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, and neuroscience, while collaborating across disciplines to advance core biological research and build experimental capabilities.

The role involves designing de novo frameworks for molecular engineering, collaborating across teams to optimize data-driven biological experiments and integrating ML models with experimental systems.

Own and build the accounting function: monthly/quarterly/annual close, GL, reconciliations, AP/expenses, procurement, CapEx/fixed assets, technical accounting policies, controls, audit readiness, finance systems/integrations, and financial reporting for leadership and investors.

Perform and scale assays to quantify immunogenicity of engineered proteins in vitro, run high-throughput immune characterization workflows, maintain lab records and inventories, analyze and present data, and collaborate across teams to inform protein de-immunization efforts.

Operate and improve an in-house AAV vector core: run weekly AAV production from cell culture through purification, perform QC assays (titer, purity, genome integrity), maintain ELN lot records and inventories, follow and update SOPs, troubleshoot production issues, and coordinate handoffs with program teams to ensure consistent, high-quality vectors.
