Job Description
AltaGas – Risk Analyst
As part of the Risk Management & Energy Fundamentals team, this role will involve analyzing market research, implementing statistical and qualitative methodologies, and assisting with the development of scenario and sensitivity analysis to help support the organization’s investment and risk management decision-making framework.
You Will:
- Create data models, SQL queries, and Power BI reports related to market data and intelligence
- Assist with the development and updating of reports, dashboards and visualizations for internal stakeholders
- Conduct in-depth analysis of commodity markets, including supply and demand dynamics, inventory levels, and price trends, and use this analysis to assist with the development of enhanced tools for analyzing market patterns, volatility, and commodity risk
- Ad hoc projects relating to AltaGas’ commodity transactions and prospective transactions
- Work within ETRM systems or other transactional data systems
- Collaborate with teams across the organization that rely on market data to provide actionable insight
- Stay updated on industry developments, regulatory changes, and market news
- Participate in industry conferences, webinars, and networking events to enhance market knowledge and professional growth
You Have:
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline like Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or Engineering
- Strong aptitude for data analytics and a desire to continuously learn
- Strong communication skills and an ability to present information
- Experience with data analysis tools and software such as Excel, SQL, Python, or R.
- An understanding of pricing in energy markets, mark-to-market, and price exposures
- Experience with commodity transactions, trading strategies, or risk mitigation is an asset
- Experience with high-level programming languages (Java, C#, Python, etc.) is an asset
