Job Description

AltaGas - Senior Trading and Risk Specialist

Reporting to the Senior Director, Commodity Risk Management & Fundamentals, the Senior Trading and Risk Specialist is responsible for the commercial trading activities involved in supporting AltaGas’ Export Terminals. 

You Will:

  • Develop and execute trading & risk management activities to support AltaGas’ Export Terminals

  • Balance daily, monthly and future positions through active trading and position monitoring

  • Responsible for modelling, pricing, and establishing profitable hedging strategies across several types of exposures

  • Monitor the Mark-to-Market of various physical and financial positions

  • Provide P&L reports and forecasts and make recommendations to Senior Management of trading and hedging strategies

  • Develop an expert understanding of global propane market fundaments

  • Responsible for financial hedging VLGC cargo freight exposure

  • Maintain high communication levels across internal departments

  • Communicate trading and risk mitigation strategies to senior management and AltaGas’ Risk Management Committee

  • Develop and maintain business processes and systems to ensure proper administration of executed contracts

  • Sensitivity analysis and assist in budgeting and planning process

You Have:

  • Post-secondary Degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, or Engineering

  • 10+ years of progressive and successful Trading or Marketing experience

  • Technical understanding of liquids processing would be an asset

  • Exceptional Excel skills

  • Experience using ETRM and Trading screens

  • Experience analyzing, measuring and evaluating product pricing, budgets and profitability

  • Experience researching and problem-solving

  • Superior oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
