OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a technical and collaborative Business Intelligence Analyst to join our DevOps delivery team and lead the development and deployment of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions. In this hands-on role, you will design, build, and deliver Power BI reports and dashboards that transform data into actionable insights for business stakeholders across the organization.

As a bridge between our data engineering team and business units, you will translate complex data into clear visualizations while empowering users through training, enablement, and guidance on data literacy and analytics tools. You will work closely with the data principal and cross-functional teams to ensure reporting solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise data standards and governance frameworks.

This role combines technical delivery with user enablement—building solutions that meet immediate business needs while growing the organization's data capabilities and self-service culture.

In this hybrid role, you will be required to commute to either the Edmonton and or Calgary office.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Requirements Elicitation - Collaborate with leaders to understand current business processes and their relationship to data insights.

  • Design and Deliver Power BI Solutions - Build end-to-end reporting and dashboard solutions using Power BI, including semantic models, DAX calculations, and interactive visualizations that drive business decision-making.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineering - Partner with data engineers to understand data pipelines, Lakehouse architectures, and semantic layers built on Microsoft Fabric and Azure platforms to ensure reporting solutions leverage trusted, well-structured data.

  • Enable Business Users - Work directly with business units to understand reporting requirements, translate business questions into analytics solutions, and provide training and support to help users become more data literate and self-sufficient.

  • Optimize Report Performance - Monitor and improve report performance, query efficiency, and user experience through DAX optimization, data model refinement, and Power BI best practices.

  • Maintain Quality and Governance - Ensure all reporting solutions adhere to data governance policies, security requirements, and enterprise standards for data quality, metadata, and documentation.

  • Innovate with Modern Tools - Stay current with Power Platform capabilities, Microsoft Fabric features, and emerging analytics technologies to recommend and implement solutions that enhance our reporting ecosystem.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A related technical degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, Power BI development, or enterprise reporting solutions.

  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, and enterprise deployment patterns.

  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages including Python, SQL, Power Query (M), DAX, and PowerShell.

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric components including Lakehouse, Notebooks, Semantic Models, and data pipelines.

  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud data platforms, particularly Azure and Microsoft Fabric technologies.

  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, star schema design, and dimensional modeling principles.

  • Experience with DevOps practices including Git version control, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines for analytics solutions.

  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into effective reporting solutions and visualizations.

  • Excellent communication and training skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.

  • Experience developing training materials, user documentation, and enablement programs for analytics tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with data engineering teams and business units in fast-paced environments.

  • Experience with AI and automation technologies including Azure OpenAI, Copilot, and Power Platform automation (Power Automate, Power Apps) considered an asset.

  • Microsoft certifications in Power BI, Azure, or Power Platform are considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.

  • Experience in insurance or healthcare industry is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and Lean practices.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
