The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of the Turbomachinery Category Team, the Category Specialist will manage an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) portfolio and related repair and overhaul supply base. The role supports procurement of gas turbines, power turbines, gas compressors and electric motor drives (EMDs), together with aftermarket parts, maintenance and field services, across all business units within an enterprise-wide category.

The Category Specialist – Turbomachinery will develop and execute sourcing and negotiation strategies within delegated authority, manage supplier relationships and contractual commitments, and translate market intelligence, demand forecasts and supplier capacity into actionable recommendations. The role combines strategic commercial analysis with hands-on project and fleet support to secure supply, protect delivery schedules and optimize lifecycle value.

Working with Project teams, Business Units, Fleet Specialists, Engineering, Legal and suppliers, this role aligns equipment procurement with long-term maintenance, capital spares and operational requirements across Canada, the United States and Mexico. The specialist supports growth, expansion and replacement programs, fleet reliability initiatives and emerging Power & Energy Solutions opportunities, including supplier due diligence and evaluation of new supply options.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain day-to-day commercial engagement with OEMs and related service providers; coordinate supplier reviews, monitor delivery, overhaul turnaround time, cost and quality commitments, and drive corrective actions and timely escalation
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with project and business unit customers, other Supply Chain teams, and cross-functional stakeholders and peers; collaborate and influence across teams to develop creative, mutually acceptable solutions that maximize organizational value
  • Consolidate project and fleet demand into forward-looking equipment, parts and maintenance forecasts; align supplier capacity, reservation commitments and critical decision dates with project schedules and outage requirements
  • Develop competitive and alternative repair and overhaul sourcing strategies, including multi-year bundled programs, capital spares, lease and exchange models, and OEM and independent service options, in collaboration with Fleet and Engineering
  • Implement category strategy through portfolio and project-specific sourcing plans, capacity reservations and commercial structures that balance supply assurance, competitive tension, commitment flexibility and lifecycle cost
  • Develop, negotiate and manage equipment purchase agreements, master agreements, amendments and long-term service agreements throughout the contract lifecycle, in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Analyze supplier capacity, lead times, spend, pricing, escalation and supply-chain constraints; maintain reliable market and demand reporting and prepare concise recommendations, risk summaries and decision materials for stakeholders and leadership
  • Support equipment standardization, supplier qualification and evaluation of new technologies with technical stakeholders, balancing fleet compatibility, lifecycle support and sourcing flexibility
  • Lead EOI/SOI and RFx processes, coordinate technical and commercial clarifications, normalize proposal scope and exclusions, and develop evaluation and award recommendations
  • Compare commercial scenarios to guide sourcing and negotiation decisions, assessing total cost of ownership, milestone payments, cash-flow timing, escalation, warranty and storage exposure, cancellation obligations and turnaround-time risk
  • Maintain accurate contract records, commercial commitments, approval documentation and action trackers in SCM systems; coordinate order follow-up and change management with project procurement and business stakeholders
  • Interpret commercial provisions with Legal as required and support contractual notices, warranty matters, delay remedies and claims; preserve negotiated protections and escalate material commercial or delivery risks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary in a related field
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong commercial acumen, including proposal normalization, lifecycle cost and cash-flow analysis, with the ability to translate complex data into clear sourcing and negotiation recommendations
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to drive consensus between stakeholders
  • Strong critical analysis, independent judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex commercial files, influence cross-functional stakeholders and escalate decisions appropriately
  • Knowledgeable in facets of supply chain management, category management, procurement, contract formation, RFP processes, and administration
  • Manage multiple assignments accurately and on time through strong organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the global turbomachinery and repair and overhaul market, supply base, cost drivers, production processes, specifications and codes, supply contracts, opportunities, and challenges
  • Experience sourcing turbomachinery equipment and aftermarket services, including gas turbines, compression, electric motor drives, capital spares and repair and overhaul programs
  • Competency in SCM systems and tools, and SAP
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly in Midstream
  • Experience managing strategic OEM relationships, capacity or long-lead procurement arrangements, and multi-year maintenance or service agreements
  • Designation or enrollment in a Supply Chain Management program such as ISM, SCMP, CSCMP, or IACCM would be considered an asset
  • Technical curiosity and the ability to work with engineering and fleet specialists to understand equipment configurations, service scope, exclusions and maintenance requirements and translate them into commercial terms
