About this opportunity:

The Decision Analysis Engineer will support Cenovus’s Conventional Gas Asset Development team by driving investment and portfolio decisions through advanced economic modeling, scenario analysis, and portfolio optimization. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining economic models, ensuring data integrity and consistency, and delivering analyses that inform asset-level, portfolio, and strategic investment decisions.

Working closely with Development Engineers and Decision Analysis specialists, the Decision Analysis Engineer will support planning, peer review, and transaction evaluations while providing clear, credible economic insights. Success in this role requires strong analytical and economic evaluation skills, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate technical and financial data into actionable recommendations that enhance decision quality and maximize asset value.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver sensitivity analyses to support in-year scenario planning and steward ongoing reconciliation against budget and plan.

  • Partner with Business Opportunity Managers to develop and maintain the 2-year Conventional economic model used for planning and decision-making.

  • Support the Decision Analysis Specialist in standardizing economic modeling approaches, templates, and methodologies across asset-level models.

  • Provide independent peer technical assurance on economic outputs supporting investment gate reviews and key business decisions.

  • Maintain data governance and consistency standards for key inputs used in asset and portfolio-level economic models.

  • Support the development and maintenance of the annual Conventional Portfolio model, including scenario design, governance, and portfolio optimization analysis.

  • Deliver economic and scenario analysis in collaboration with Development Engineers and Business Opportunity Managers to inform strategic portfolio decisions, transactions, and value optimization.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Professional Engineer registered with APEGA.

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in upstream asset development, economic evaluation, decision analysis, or related technical disciplines.

  • Demonstrated expertise in economic modeling, sensitivity analysis, scenario planning, and portfolio evaluation.

  • Experience with economic governance, model standardization, and/or master data stewardship considered an asset.

  • Strong collaborator with the ability to work in high-performing teams while demonstrating autonomy, accountability, and data-driven influence in decision-making.
