Come Build a Better Financial Future for all Canadians

At Neo, we're building a more rewarding financial experience for all Canadians.

Life at a rapidly expanding tech startup is demanding, exhilarating, and not for everyone.

Since being founded in 2019, Neo has built incredible traction and is one of the fastest growing fintechs in Canada.

  • Fastest growing company in Canada 3 times from 2022–2025

  • Top-ranked mobile apps and credit cards

  • Canada's top-rated credit card

  • Team of 700+ people

  • 1M+ customers in 3 years

  • 10K+ retail partners

The Honest Version of This Job

Neo has a brand that works in context: inside partner storefronts, on co-branded cards, attached to names Canadians already recognize. What doesn't fully exist yet is a brand that earns attention on its own. The identity, the voice, the campaigns that make someone want to be a Neo customer specifically. That's what this role is here to build.

The Director of Brand Marketing and Communications is the person who makes the brand real day to day. Not just the guidelines. The actual output: campaigns, creative, messaging, the stories that get told about Neo in market. You’ll represent the quality bar for everything that carries the Neo name publicly. You bridge the gap between high-level strategy and hands-on output, leading Neo’s growth.

You will partner with the founders to shape our PR profile, gradually taking full ownership of the function as Neo matures

What You're Walking Into

The team is five or six people across brand, social, and communications. The creative infrastructure (brand guidelines, tone of voice, playbooks) is partially built. We are looking to you to fill the gaps, and raise the bar.

You'll work closely with growth, product, and lifecycle. The brand touches everything: every product launch, every campaign, every piece of content that goes out. You'll be the connective tissue between those teams without losing creative integrity in the process.

What This Job Actually Requires

You have a genuine eye for quality. Not a preference for good work. Actual standards you're willing to fight for. You push back on briefs that aren't right, on creative that isn't there yet, on messaging that sounds like every other financial services company in Canada. You've made work you're proud of and you can point to it.

You can write. Not just edit. The best brand directors can put words on a page themselves. It sharpens your judgment on other people's work and makes you faster when the team is stretched.

You know how to run a campaign end to end. Integrated planning, agency management, production timelines, performance analysis. Not as an observer. As the person driving it.

You understand the difference between a brand bolted onto a product and one that grows from it. Neo's brand needs to be rooted in what the product actually does for people. You know how to find that story and build from it, rather than dressing up a value prop that isn't there.

This role offers direct exposure to the founding team, requiring a partner who thrives in an evolving org structure. You don’t wait for a brief; you build trust through initiative and help senior leadership sharpen their focus

What We're Not Looking For

A brand manager who is used to committee approvals and multi-month campaign cycles. That process exists for a reason in that environment. It doesn't here.

Someone who outsources their creative judgment. Agencies are a tool. The creative direction comes from this role. If you're primarily a relationship manager who defers to the agency on what the work should actually be, the output will reflect that.

Someone who treats PR as a stretch assignment. This role will eventually own external communications. If you don't have reps in that world (media relationships, announcement strategy, a sense for what journalists want) you'll be learning from scratch at the same time as everything else.

The Compensation Reality

Base salary, a cash short-term incentive tied to company milestones, and meaningful equity in the form of options. The upside is real. Neo's trajectory is real. If you're the kind of person who wants to own a piece of what you're building, that's how this works.

The Basics
  • 8+ years in brand marketing with demonstrated ownership of integrated campaigns

  • Equally effective as an individual contributor and a team leader

  • Strong writing and creative direction skills

  • B2C experience; financial services or consumer tech a plus

  • Canadian market experience preferred

  • Based in Canada; we work in-person
