This Position reports to:

Electrical Engineering Manager
 

The Electrical Engineer provides technical support and assists in electrical engineering and design activities for the ABB Electrification business for Energy Industries Canada. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this position will support conceptual design, detailed design, pre-commissioning and commissioning support, and any site visits or customer visits as required. This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop technical expertise in electrical design while working on projects that comply with Canadian standards, customer specifications, the Electrical Code, and CSA requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Engineering projects by assisting with technical and project coordination tasks under senior engineer guidance.
  • Assist on E-house design projects including design, layout development, cable tray layout, cable selection, and AutoCAD/Visio drawing development.
  • Learn and apply Canadian electrical installations standards, Local building codes, and Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
  • Support safety and quality culture initiatives and follow ABB's work practices.
  • Assist with project execution activities – FEED support, detailed design tasks, preliminary studies, and cost estimate development.
  • Support the preparation of single line drawings, building layouts, wiring drawings, panel schedules, cable tray design, and grounding designs.
  • Gain knowledge of ABB products and their operation – MCC, SWGR, VFD, Transformer, motors, UPS and battery chargers (LV/MV).
  • Assist with front-end proposal and sales support activities, including reviewing RFQs, vendor drawings, and building layouts under senior engineer guidance.
  • Support QA/QC activities, documentation preparation, and document control processes
  • Learn and participate in QMS and HSE programs as required.
  • Collaborate with team members to support project delivery and continuous learning.
  • Support supply chain activities and cost optimization initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
  • 0–2 years of engineering experience, including co-op, internship, or entry level roles; exposure to electrical equipment or power systems is an advantage.
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in technical work.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply project management concepts in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Visio is preferred; eligible to work in Canada and committed to pursuing a P.Eng. designation in the future.
