Summary:

The Machinist position produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) and manual heavy machinery, along with other shop equipment as required. Responsible for following and performing quality control activities, along with following all safety procedures. Active participation in FET’s Health, Safety and Environment program. This position may involve various shifts and overtime hours depending on the scope of work and level of manufacturing activity.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes machining by studying work orders, drawings, material specifications, geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Sets and adjusts tooling offsets, knows when and how to replace worn out cutting inserts/tools.
  • Operate Fanuc CNC lathes, sets tooling parameters, and verifies part programs using basic math and geometry.
  • Verifies program by completing first article inspections.
  • Adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Ensure parts adhere to quality requirements.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Completing production and quality logs.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures including health, safety, and environment policies.
  • Ensuring all work areas are clean and organized.
  • Participate in training and safety meetings.
  • Perform quality control inspections on products as needed.
  • Ensure tools and machinery are in good working order and maintained.
  • Lifting up to 45lbs independently.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Must be able to operate Fanuc G-code turning machines, set-up skills considered an asset.
  • Ability to edit programs is considered an asset.
  • Follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English.
  • Grade 12 basic math skills.
  • Dedicated to continuous improvement.

Education

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent
  • Journeyman Ticket or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Forklift and overhead crane training or experience an asset.
  • 3-5 years’ experience operating CNC Lathe Equipment.
