Manager, Accounting

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Manager, Accounting provides leadership and direction to the Accountants and the Accounts Payable team and is responsible for a portfolio of accounting responsibilities including providing oversight on various accounting functions, participating in monthly and quarterly reporting, assisting in reporting to government agencies, and the preparation of the annual budget.

This is a contract position for an expected duration of 18 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-going supervision, coaching and mentoring to a team of high performing accountants including ensuring established processes and standards are maintained, performance management, attendance and vacation scheduling and approvals, training, and the recruitment of new staff.

  • Supervise the accounts payable and receivable functions, revenue and fixed asset accounting.

  • Responsible for monthly internal reporting by region.

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly group reporting requirements.

  • Oversee the month-end general ledger account reconciliations.

  • Prepare indirect tax reporting and annual returns.

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.

  • Other projects and ad-hoc assignments as required.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Accounting CPA designation

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting and financial reporting

  • Experience leading, supervising and mentoring staff

  • Prior industry experience an asset; candidates from public practice will also be considered

  • Outstanding attention to detail and proven accuracy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly effective organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities

  • Effective problem solver with demonstrated critical thinking, judgement and decision-making skills

  • Self-motivated and results driven with the ability to work independently while being committed to functioning as a team player

  • Ability to work under pressure, maintaining a professional image and attitude

  • Intermediate+ knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, with advanced knowledge in Excel

  • Experience with an accounting ERP system like Great Plains required

  • Experience with ERP migration an asset

  • Bilingualism (English and French) an asset
