Position Overview:Finning Canada is looking to hire a permanent, full-time Manager, Total Rewards based in either our Edmonton, Calgary, or Surrey branch. This role provides both strategic and operational leadership in the design, delivery, and governance of Finning’s total rewards programs—including compensation, pension and benefits, rewards and recognition, and wellness.
The Manager, Total Rewards leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for supporting nationwide programs across diverse employee groups and work environments. Success in this position requires strong strategic thinking to align total rewards with organizational priorities; deep technical expertise in compensation, benefits, and wellness; and strong analytical capabilities to interpret data, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform decision‑making.
The ideal leader builds strong, collaborative relationships with HR, Finance, and operational leaders, applying influential communication and effective change‑leadership skills to ensure employees clearly understand and value the total rewards offering. A commitment to employee wellbeing, preventative health, and a positive and engaging total rewards experience is essential to thriving in this role.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions

Compensation Programs & Governance

  • Manage salary structures, job evaluation, and market benchmarking to ensure competitiveness and internal equity.

  • Lead annual compensation cycles, including merit, variable pay, and sales incentive programs.

  • Interpret and apply compensation components across three collective agreements and non‑union groups.

  • Provide compensation analytics, insights, and governance to support organizational decision‑making.

Pension & Benefits Administration

  • Oversee pension plan governance, compliance, and employee education initiatives.

  • Manage benefits program design, vendor relationships, and cost‑effectiveness.

  • Ensure accurate administration of eligibility, enrollments, and life‑event changes.

  • Support benefit provisions within collective agreements and resolve escalated or complex cases.

Rewards, Recognition & Employee Experience

  • Lead recognition programs that reinforce culture, performance, and service excellence.

  • Develop and deliver total rewards communication strategies, including annual statements.

  • Evaluate and enhance recognition tools, platforms, and program effectiveness.

  • Improve the employee experience through clear, accessible, and inclusive rewards programs.

Wellness, Health & Preventative Programs

  • Lead the wellness strategy with a focus on preventative health and holistic wellbeing.

  • Manage wellness vendors, EAP services, and mental health supports.

  • Integrate wellness initiatives into the broader total rewards offering.

  • Analyze health, disability, and absenteeism trends to recommend targeted interventions.

Success Measures/ Accountability

  • Compensation, benefits, and incentive programs are delivered accurately, on time, and in full compliance with internal governance, financial controls, and three collective agreements.

  • Employee understanding and engagement with total rewards improves, demonstrated through increased participation in benefits, recognition, and wellness programs.

  • Pension, benefits, and wellness vendors meet or exceed service, cost, and performance expectations, with measurable improvements in employee experience and plan sustainability.

  • Data‑driven insights and reporting support decision‑making, including competitive benchmarking, pay equity, and trends in health, disability, and compensation costs.

  • The Total Rewards team operates as a high‑performing, service‑focused function, with strong cross‑functional partnerships and continuous improvement in processes and employee experience.

Mandatory (Must-Have) Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required.

  • Professional designation (CPHR, CEBS, CCP) preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in total rewards, including compensation and benefits.

  • Experience leading teams and managing programs in a complex, multi‑site organization.

  • Experience supporting unionized environments and large‑scale HR programs.

  • Deep expertise in compensation design, job evaluation, and market benchmarking.

  • Strong understanding of pension, benefits, and wellness program administration.

  • Experience working with unionized environments and interpreting collective agreements.

Soft Skills:

  • Advanced analytical capability with the ability to translate data into insights.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts.

  • Ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and manage programs.

  • High degree of discretion, judgment, and integrity in handling sensitive information.
