OVERVIEW:
The Privacy Analyst plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the Alberta Blue Cross® Privacy Office; responding to internal and external inquiries and complaints, information access requests, conducting privacy risk assessments, developing and maintaining training programming, supporting the Privacy Manager as required.
Work includes engagement with both the Privacy Manager and other business areas to develop and grow the maturity of the Privacy Office. By addressing emerging trends and legislation matters, operations and compliance issues and assessing and implementing privacy best practices through the corporation, the Privacy Analyst supports the privacy framework of Alberta Blue Cross®.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Conducts privacy incident investigations (from root causes to corrective action) and provides timely response, recommendations, and on-going support for resolution, if needed.
- Works on privacy risk assessments and major business initiatives and processes.
- Develops and maintains the privacy training program for new and current employees -- and provides additional specific training to departments or roles/projects as needed.
- Communicates privacy best practices via our intranet site and employee newsletter.
- Stays abreast of privacy legislation, best practices and industry trends affecting privacy and data security concerns relating to Alberta Blue Cross® business practices and customer expectations. This includes attendance at professional development sessions and workshops.
- Participates in professional development initiatives and acquires and maintains appropriate privacy certification.
- Works closely, as required, with the others in Privacy and Legal Services on specific privacy-related issues or broader corporate initiatives.
- Supports Privacy Manager as needed.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:
- A minimum of one year of work-related experience where attention to detail and analytic skills played a key role.
- A related undergraduate degree.
- Preference will be given to those with the University of Alberta’s Information Access and Protection of Privacy certificate
- Knowledge and understanding of the core business process in the health benefits industry.
- Willingness to pursue formal privacy and data security training such as CIPP-C, is essential.
- Proven track record in paying high attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills which have led to productive working relationships.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time under tight deadlines
- Superior information gathering, analytical and decision-making and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be capable of building rapport among stakeholders.
- Knowledge of privacy principles and practices, legislation and investigative processes would be an asset.
