OVERVIEW


Vertex is currently accepting applications for one full-time, permanent Senior Accountant in Sherwood Park, AB location. The successful candidate will provide financial expertise and support to the Controller; playing a key role in overseeing all reports, financial functions and process improvement opportunities.


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS


  • Relevant post-secondary education combined with relevant accounting experience.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, with supervisory or team leadership experience considered an asset.
  • Experience in the transportation, trucking, or related service industries is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial, operational, and cost reporting and analysis
  • Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and business process’
  • CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation an asset
  • Strongly proficient with Accounting software, advanced knowledge using MS Word and Excel 
  • Experience in Maestro software is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop, nurture and maintain strong relationships with vendors, agencies and various internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist in the delivery of accurate and timely financial and operational reports 
  • Responsible for the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Analyze financial and operational data and provide meaningful insights to support informed business and strategic decision-making.
  • Support and coordinate the year-end audit process, including preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform reconciliations and coordinate timely payment of Lease Operator accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning processes through financial analysis and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Assist in the documentation and implementation of internal controls to ensure consistency of policies and procedures
  • Facilitate the development of indirect reports through the provision of continuous coaching and mentoring
  • Other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time by the manager.
