The Opportunity

TC Energy is seeking a Business Development Representative to join our Canada Gas team, reporting to the Manager of Business Development (BD). You will play a critical role in all aspects of identifying, evaluating and advancing new business development opportunities across Canada, assisting with current development initiatives and preparing material for marketing and management review. Success in this role requires a focus on efficient prospecting and networking, the ability to identify and coordinate internal and external resources and the ability to establish strong strategic relationships.

What you’ll do

  • Participate in the development of market outlook / strategies and business plans with the Forecasting and Fundamentals teams using comprehensive knowledge of the market and its trends, and competitors’ offerings and positioning

  • Participate in internal or external market assessments to identify business opportunities, infrastructure requirements, and market share development

  • Research, analyze and present customer and competitor intelligence

  • Provide significant contributions to TC Energy’s strategy for developing new opportunities for non-regulated Canada Gas

  • Support capital development for our Canadian regulated assets including NGTL, Canadian Mainline and TQM

  • Collaborate with the Commercial team in creating a strong market presence by analyzing new opportunities and targeting markets consistent with business objectives and growth targets

  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders including existing customers, interconnecting pipelines, and project investors / developers, as well as internal stakeholders including Corporate Development, Finance, Counterparty Risk, Forecasting and Fundamentals, Marketing and others

  • Understand customers’ needs and collaborate with internal and external experts, to develop suitable innovative solutions

  • Prepare materials required for internal approvals necessary to advance BD opportunities and/or secure funding from TC Energy’s Project Risk Review (PRR) and/or Capital Allocation Committee (CAC)

  • Participate in negotiations for terms and conditions of partners or client agreements as required

  • Accountable for delivery of value-add investment opportunities that are strategically-aligned, on-time, in-scope and on-budget, while working closely with internal teams, including Commercial, Regulatory, Projects, Operations and other corporate functions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 6+ years of commercial, development, or related experience

  • An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in natural gas transportation and/or within a commercial or business development team

  • Experience with natural gas producers or end-users

  • Customer service focus with an understanding of customer needs and expectations

  • Driven to overcome obstacles and deliver results in a proactive manner

  • Proven ability to operate efficiently and effectively in unstructured, project-oriented environment

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills

  • Strong financial acumen, CFA designation or progressing towards completion of the CFA designation

  • Strong ability to analyze and create effective customer solutions

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to participate effectively in a fast paced, dynamic changing environment
