About York

At York, we are bold, fast, and relentlessly focused on what matters: our clients.

While others get lost in bureaucracy and outdated thinking, we cut through the noise. We challenge the status quo, move with urgency, and make decisions that serve our clients, not just our bottom line. We take full ownership, work together to solve complicated problems, and execute—no excuses, no shortcuts.

This is not the place for complacency. Our team thrives in a high-performance, no-BS environment— we are a group of high performers who think critically, move fast, and follow through. The success of our business depends on the willingness of our team to ditch antiquated ways of operating and adapt new methods for achieving excellent results.

This is how we work. This is how we win.

Talent Acquisition Specialist

Reports to: People & Culture Manager

Position Summary

The Talent Acquisition (TA) Specialist supports the People & Culture Manager in executing York’s recruitment strategy for its construction and manufacturing workforce, with a focus on skilled trades, site, and plant roles. This individual manages assigned requisitions, builds and maintains talent pipelines for hard-to-fill and high-turnover positions, and brings specialist knowledge of the Alberta trades and manufacturing labour market to the People & Culture team.

As part of York Realty’s Shared Services model, the TA Specialist supports companies across “the Group”. As such, bringing a customer-service approach to work is critical to ensure clients (York Partners) are aligned, supported, and satisfied with the services received.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment across the York Group (Realty, Construction, Precast, and shared partners), from posting jobs and prescreening to coordinating interviews, following the strategy set by the People & Culture Manager.
  • Proactively source candidates through cold calling, job boards, LinkedIn, and referrals, being mindful of companies/groups that are on our ‘no contact’ list
  • Build active talent pipelines for high-volume, hard-to-fill, and high-turnover roles
  • Attend job fairs, trade school events, and hiring events as assigned
  • Coordinate with external staffing and labour agencies as directed by the People & Culture Manager
  • Deliver a timely, professional candidate experience and a smooth handoff of new hires to onboarding
  • Maintain accurate candidate records in BambooHR and report recruitment metrics, including time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, source effectiveness, and 90-day retention
  • Share market conditions, candidate availability, and turnover trends with the People & Culture Manager and hiring managers
  • Ensure recruitment practices comply with Alberta employment standards and human rights legislation
  • Respond to client requests and inquiries within 24 hours

  • 5–8 years of full-cycle recruitment experience, with a focus on construction, skilled trades, or manufacturing roles
  • Proven success filling high-volume and hard-to-fill trades and labour roles
  • Driven and confident, with a high comfort level cold calling candidates
  • Relationship-focused, building trust with candidates and hiring teams
  • Open to learning and coaching, and willing to adapt to York’s recruitment approach rather than relying on a set way of doing things
  • Strong sourcing skills, including cold calling, LinkedIn Recruiter, and Boolean search
  • Experiential knowledge of the Alberta trades landscape, including apprenticeship, journeyperson, and Red Seal certifications
  • Working knowledge of Alberta employment standards and human rights legislation

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and the York Precast plant

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated alignment with York’s company values
