The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. The AESO is at the forefront of the energy transition, and this is your opportunity to make a mark on the Alberta electricity industry. We are seeking a talented Tariff Design Analyst to join our team to bring a fresh perspective to drive innovative thinking in this rapidly evolving industry.  

 

The ISO tariff recovers the cost of the transmission system and sets out the requirements to connect to the transmission system. You will support the redesign of the ISO tariff by collaborating closely with internal teams to design changes and advance them through the regulatory approvals process. This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the ISO tariff. 

 

This full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary. We support a hybrid work environment, where the team is in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are flexible for where you work best. 

 

Accountabilities include: 

  • Support ISO tariff initiatives to advance changes to tariff policies; the ISO tariff (rates and terms and conditions); and associated information documents. 

  • Support the preparation and progression of ISO tariff applications with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). 

  • Research, apply critical thinking and analysis to develop and defend recommendations on tariff rate design, evaluating and recommending trade-offs between competing objectives, principles, and issues. 

  • Communicate complex tariff concepts, in written and verbal form, to a variety of audiences. 

  • Build relationships with internal teams to understand their unique perspectives and interactions with the ISO tariff. 

  • Apply effective project planning skills, such as identifying risks and mitigations, strategic thinking, and leading through influence to ensure successful project delivery.

You have: 

  • An undergraduate degree in business, economics, engineering or equivalent, or experience equivalent to a degree or designation.  

  • 5+ years of experience in the utility industry or a regulated industry. 

  • Experience directly working with ISO tariff matters would be an asset. 

  • Strong understanding of the electricity framework in Alberta.
