Job Description

Overview:

Reporting to the SVP, Taxation, the Tax Manager leads the Canadian tax compliance and tax reporting requirements of the Company and assists the SVP, Taxation with various tax planning projects. This individual plays an integral role in leading, identifying and implementing best practices, and optimizing the corporation’s tax structure. As a member of the Company’s finance leadership team, the Tax Manager interacts with senior leadership to proactively identify tax opportunities and satisfactorily resolve prior years’ tax examination.

Key Deliverables:

  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all corporate tax returns in compliance with relevant Canadian tax laws and regulations.

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required tax documentation.

  • Manage the process for foreign affiliate reporting.

  • Implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position.

  • Provide guidance on the tax implications of business decisions and proposed transactions.

  • Assist in the development of tax efficient international and domestic structures while achieving administrative efficiency and operational flexibility.

  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate reporting of tax provisions for financial statements under U.S. GAAP and IFRS.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements as they relate to tax matters.

  • Stay current with changes in Canadian and foreign affiliate tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company

  • Conduct research on specific tax issues and provide recommendations.

  • Work closely with internal departments, external auditors, and tax authorities to address inquiries and resolve issues.

  • Provide training and guidance to junior members of the finance team.

  • Evaluate the efficiency of tax processes and implement tax automation wherever possible.

  • Foster a supportive and collaborative team culture through coaching and team-building activities.

  • Collaborate with leadership to set performance goals and track individual and team progress.

  • Conduct in-depth tax research to interpret and analyze tax laws and regulations as required by the business. Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and communicate their impact on the organization.

  • Analyze financial data and transactions to identify tax implications and provide recommendations for optimization.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing tax findings, implications, and recommendations.
     

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or finance designation along with a (CPA) designation.

  • 5+ years of corporate income tax experience and leadership/supervisory experience.

  • Strong background in tax compliance and tax reporting with an emphasis on corporate tax matters and experience working with companies with complex structures and cross-border transactions.

  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools and technology to drive efficiency, enhance decision-making, and support operations and financial insights.

  • Practical experience and knowledge of financial reporting requirements.

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
