Technical Specialist- Houston, TX /Calgary, Canada

A Technical Specialist (TS) is recognized as a technical leader of expertise. The specialist is responsible for quality execution and must possess the ability to acquire the technical knowledge to understand the customer’s businesses and mentorship to team members and be accountable on project deliverables with high CSAT and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and migrate applications across customer environments.

  • Lead requirements gathering activities, ensuring both business and technical requirements are accurately captured.

  • Develop clear and detailed requirement documentation, including SCADA-related and other specialized domain requirements.

  • Oversee application development within the specialist area, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and best practices.

  • Review and approve proposed technical solutions within the area of expertise.

  • Provide technical guidance and direction for application development activities.

  • Estimate development effort based on application specifications.

  • Lead code reviews for developed applications to ensure quality and compliance.

  • Support database migration activities related to the specialist domain.

  • Deliver training to customers and internal teams on specialized tools and systems.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant products, systems, and industry standards.

  • Recommend and define standard procedures and best practices for installation, configuration, and migration activities.

  • Develop tools to improve installation, configuration, migration, and testing processes.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application installation, configuration, and migration.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing to team members.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned responsibilities.

  • Travel to customer sites approximately 25–30% as required.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years Windows application development experience using Microsoft Visual Studio C++, C#, VB.

  • 7+ years’ experience in SCADA Pipeline Edition software.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases.

  • Knowledge of version control software.

  • Understand the principle of cause-effect relationships in problems.

  • Understand concepts related to high-redundant, mission-critical systems.

  • Must have excellent problem solving, documentation and communication skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage laterally and upwards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Proactive learner who shares knowledge, mentors others, and leads by example

  • Business knowledge of Oil and industry.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in software or Electrical Engineering or a Computer Science degree with a minimum of 5-year plus related post-secondary SCADA experiences OR computer software Diploma with a minimum of 10-year plus related post-secondary SCADA experiences,

  • A professional Engineer registered with a Professional Engineering Association is considered an asset.
