Location: Calgary, Edmonton, or Red Deer, AB preferred. Any AER office will be considered.

Employment Type: Full Time – Limited Term – Anticipated duration 24 Months.

Salary Range: T2, Level 4, $80,580 - $94,800 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.  This position may be eligible to receive a Northern Living allowance. Northern Living allowances are provided based on the location of the position and where an employee primarily works and resides.

Closure Nomination Analyst

The Opportunity­­

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Closure Nomination Analyst to join our Regulatory Applications (RA) branch. The Closure Nomination Analyst plays a key role in advancing responsible energy development and environmental stewardship in Alberta by supporting the Closure Nomination Program (CNP).

In this role, no two days are alike. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, influence positive closure outcomes for inactive and abandoned energy sites, and contribute to a regulatory program that helps return lands to equivalent capability while supporting public confidence in the energy industry.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Review and coordinate closure nomination submissions, assessing eligibility and program requirements.

  • Manage communications with requesters, licensees, and internal stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with technical experts across the organization, respond to inquiries from industry and the public, track program performance and timelines.

  • Provide guidance and education on Closure Nomination Program requirements and processes.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • 5+ years of related work experience, working with stakeholders, complaints and associated administrative processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, science, legal studies or arts.

  • Knowledge of energy development, specifically closure and liability in Alberta.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including experience with external stakeholders, public speaking, and delivering presentations.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel and Power BI) as well as data management and analysis and experience with Tableau.

  • Experience in the use of AER databases and systems, specifically OneStop.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage varying responsibilities, conflicting priorities, and deliver results in a deadline driven environment.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or conflict resolution certification is an asset.

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
